Woody Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 "All Things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Matt. 21:22. Do you belive this as written ... or do you see the need to add or subtract or say 'but'? I suspect to hear lots of buts. Care to add yours'? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Dr. Rich Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hi woody, BUT hey, have you ever had this happen or have seen this happen? There is one small little catch to this that most people, if not all, have overlooked. Just as in the words found in John 14, 15, 16 and 17, people have failed to look to see whom Jesus was talking to and why. The picture here is Jesus alone with ONLY His disciples as can be found in the verses just before verse 22. And remember this, that Jesus gave THEM the Holy Spirit (John 20:21-22) and sent them out into the whole world, not just to the Jews, to have them teach the gospel OF THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN to the world. This gosple was NOT the same as was taught by Paul. Quote
Administrators Gail Posted March 15, 2011 Administrators Posted March 15, 2011 Yes, Woody, that one is intriguing! The urge to "but" is certainly strong! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

This is a very interesting statement and like Gail mentioned, its hard to not say "but". Jesus does say something about most of us not even having the faith of a mustard seed. Maybe if we replace the word "believing" with "having faith" in that verse, at least in this instance. Maybe we should look at the whole context of his train of thought and to what he meant also. Not sure if we'll ever come up with an answer that all will like. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

At least they were not presented in a 'dogmatic' form. I appreciate that. And if we replaced and modified scripture as you proposed : Where would we be? This verse would be pretty meaningless. Right? Dottie Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 The qualification to receiving is believing. Do we always believe that our prayers will be answered, or do we just hope? Quote
Sonny Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 "All Things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive." Matt. 21:22. But.... James 4:1 What causes fights and quarrels among you? Aren't they caused by the selfish desires that fight to control you? 2 You want what you don't have, so you commit murder. You're determined to have things, but you can't get what you want. You quarrel and fight. You don't have the things you want, because you don't pray for them. 3 When you pray for things, you don't get them because you want them for the wrong reason--for your own pleasure Quote

Woody Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 The qualification to receiving is believing. Do we always believe that our prayers will be answered, or do we just hope? I never claim to believe I will receive it. I always pray with a qualifier ... "may your will be done". That way I never know what will come my way. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. carolaa Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 HEY ALL MAYBE it matters what we are praying for??? are we praying for some ones safety or their health??? are we praying for some ones understanding of the bible?? are we praying for some one to make a commitment to GOD??? OR are we praying for some want that we think we need??? just wondering dgrimm60 I like that. Although even when we pray for others, God will not force a person's will. All He will do is woo and draw, but in the end He will allow the person to decide how to respond. Quote
Woody Posted March 18, 2011 Author Posted March 18, 2011 Quote: All He will do is woo and draw Yes. I agree. And He is a good wooer. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
