Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted March 20, 2011 Moderators Posted March 20, 2011 Hugh Martin, who composed the hit song "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" for the 1944 MGM hit musical Meet Me In St. Louis, died March 11 at age 96. The song was sung by Judy Garland in the film, and it became one of the most longing and long-lived of seasonal songs [according to TIME Magazine]. After Hugh Martin converted to Seventh-day Adventism, he reset his signature hit as "Have Yourself a Blessed Little Christmas." Sacred or secular, it remains a poignant carol for all Christmases. He also composed "The Trolley Song," "The Boy Next Door," and "Christmas," among many other Broadway scores. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Administrators Gail Posted March 20, 2011 Administrators Posted March 20, 2011 He was up to our Campmeeting one year when Del Delker was performing. That was years ago... Administrators Gail Posted March 20, 2011 Administrators Posted March 20, 2011 I'm not sure how long Ms. Delker will last, either. I don't think she's been that well for a while now. Del and I were friends when we were in college*, and we've exchanged Christmas cards for years. But this year hers came back. The address was wrong, but no forwarding address was given. So she may be in a nursing home somewhere. I know she's frail now. But she certainly continued to sing solos almost into her 80s. ======= * She's much older than I. She went back to college after she was at the VOP. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
