I know a well respected Pastor who takes his off before he goes 'up front' They are not fanatical on this, but I thought it might be an interesting topic of discussion. Thoughts? Liz Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I think it would be cool to take off your shoes when entering the Sanctuary. When my dh went blind, the thing that caused his blindness also messed with his equilibrium. He started going barefoot around the house, and we noticed that he could stand upright, but when he put shoes on, he stooped over and walked rather feebly--he felt like he was always going to fall. So it didn't take him long before he went barefoot every where he went. We even have a doctor's note for those few times when "someone" would have a problem with it. Anyways, when he is at church, others will take off their shoes too--mainly women. I wish they were doing it for a more noble reason, like it being Holy Ground as opposed to be comfortable. <shrug> Long winded answer for "go for it". Oh and the odor comes from feet being stuck in shoes and sweating; letting them air out, or not ever putting shoes on in the first place, there is no odor. aldona Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 We already take shoes off when it is time for footwashing. If you had a pair of shoes on all day, then it would smell. But if you wash your feet, then put on your shoes for the journey to church, and remove them at the door, there wouldn't be enough time for strong odors to build up. I have wondered about that. Moses was asked to takes his shoes/sandals off on holy ground. The priest takes off his shoes and washes his feet before he goes into the tabernacle. The Muslims take their shoes off before they enter a mosque. We the tourists had to take our shoes off before going into the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. I even ask our guests to leave their shoes at the door when entering our house, not because our house is holy, but I don't know what filth those shoes have stepped on. We have washable slippers at the door. Quote

Even then I wouldn't have a problem with removing shoes in God's presence. Novel idea!
