Evidence 1: Worldwide Distribution of Flood Traditions.

Anthropology is the study of man—his origin, his environmental and social relations and his culture, it is significant that anthropological studies show that a great, universal flood is part of the customary beliefs of almost every society on Earth. (See fig. 9.)

This is truly amazing in light of evolutionism’s rejection of a worldwide flood. Why would a great flood have been recorded in the traditions of practically every nation in existence today unless it had actually occurred?

Richard Andress (1835–1912), a German geographer, began compiling Flood traditions in the 1800s. He collected information from 88 different cultures and societies: 42 from the eastern hemisphere and 46 from the western hemisphere. To date, over 200 accounts have been collected by various societies and organizations. The most detailed accounts come, as we would expect, from countries nearest to the Mt. Ararat region—the resting place of the Ark. Other versions have turned up in Persia, India, Burma, Indonesia, Sarawak, New Guinea, Tahiti, Hawaii, China, Japan, Siberia, Australia (among the aborigines), New Zealand (among the Maoris), Alaska (among the Eskimos), even people living far from the sea—such as the Hopi Indians in the American Southwest and the incas of South America, who lived high in the Peruvian Andes. All have legends of a great flood washing over the land, covering the mountaintops and wiping out virtually all life on Earth. In addition, Egypt, Sudan, Nigeria, South Africa, Greece, Iceland, Lithuania, Finland, Lapland, Wales and Ireland also have stories of a gigantic flood that destroyed nearly all mankind. All of these countries, which represent a good cross section of the world, had flood legends long before the Bible ever came to their lands. (See fig. 10.)

Evidence 2: Population Growth Statistics.

One of the clearest evidences for a worldwide Flood is the growth of Earth’s population throughout time. If there was no worldwide Flood, and if man has been on Earth for a million years as evolutionists assume, why is the population explosion only recently becoming a problem?

In A.D. 1650, the world population was estimated to be 400 million; in 1800, it had grown to 850 million. By 1990, it reached 5 billion. Current analysis indicates that the world’s population is now doubling every 30 years. In past centuries, it doubled every 100 years; before advances in medicine, it took even longer.

If we assume an ultra-conservative evolutionary position—that man’s existence began 500,000 years ago—then the world’s population has reached its current level by doubling on an average of every 16,500 years. Simple mathematics reveals this figure to border on the foolish. (See fig. 12.)

Today the average family in our world has 3.6 children; the annual population increases only 2%. That may not sound like much, but when you consider a world which now has over 5 billion people, 2% means an additional 50 million babies are added to Planet Earth each year. If we were to take a much more conservative view, reducing the annual population increase to only ½% and calculating the average family with 2.5 children, then the present world population would have developed in only 4,000 years—just short of the time which has passed since the Flood. This is a fourth of the present rate of growth, which would easily allow for long periods of no growth due to famines and wars, with which history is replete.

What does the evolutionary theory have to offer? With the supposed million-year history of man, an incredible 25,000 generations—one every 40 years—would have passed. How big would the population be now if it increased only ½% per year for a million years? Using the same conservative formula given in the previous example, the resultant population would be 102100 (1 with 2,100 zeros after it). That is impossible since all the tiny electrons in the entire universe number only 10130 (1 with 130 zeros following it).

The population growth statistics point to the biblical model of the Flood. Human culture can be verified back to less than 5,000 years ago—the time of the global Flood. The observable growth rate of human population on Planet Earth fits much more naturally in a Creation/Global Flood framework than an evolutionary concept of human history

Evidence 3: Worldwide Occurrence of Water-laid Sedimentary Rock.

(See fig. 13.)

The Flood of Genesis was not a spring flood, it was a worldwide, catastrophic, hydraulic, volcanic and tectonic upheaval. It literally turned the world upside down, leaving a sedimentary graveyard averaging a mile in depth all over the Earth. Approximately 75% of Earth’s crust is sedimentary rock, which is rock formed in and by water. The geological and fossil evidence reveals that the world was once inundated by physical forces with which modern man is not acquainted. A global Flood would have deposited huge amounts of sediment throughout the world.

Evidence 5: Formation of Fossils.

(See fig. 15.)

Fossils are found all over the world; but by and large, these are not being formed today. Sudden death, sudden and instant burial and sudden pressure—all at the same time—are required in order to form fossils. Otherwise, decay from oxygen and other elements block the process from occurring.

A question often asked is: if the Flood is responsible for the fossils, why aren’t there more human fossils found alongside those of animals? The answer is: there is evidence of such discoveries; however, these fossils disturb the evolutionary charts of time, and evolutionists have tried to hush up most of these finds. Announcements of such discoveries have become more rare in recent years because evolutionists have learned these discoveries weaken their case while strengthening the case for creation.

Fossils are found all over the world. The catastrophic nature of the Flood provides the best explanation for their formation, as fossilization requires sudden death and instant burial.

A major flood would generally create a fossil order from the “simple” to the complex forms of life according to an animal’s habitat, mobility, and density. Hydrodynamic selectivity would then layer out the dense, less mobile marine beings (such as tiny creatures like the trilobites, crustaceans, mollusks, and echinoderms) in the cambrian rock (lowest layer of strata) more rapidly than less dense, more mobile ones.

In the aftermath of a major flood, the location and layering of fossils generally would be based upon the animals’ habitats, mobility, and body densities. However, the catastrophic nature of the Flood caused exeptions to this pattern. Many fossil graveyards were jammed with every type of creature.

As the waters rose, the slow-moving shore creatures (the amphibians) would be trapped next, then the slow-moving reptiles. Finally the waters would overtake the more rapidly fleeing birds and mammals, including—at last—man. The illustration reveals various types of environments in which animals live and how they could be buried in a roughly predictable order by rising floodwaters.

The habitats and ecological zones of the various groupings of animals illustrated above reveal how such creatures could be buried by the rising floodwaters in a rather predictable way: fish and marine first, amphibians second, mammals and birds third, etc.

Evidence 6: Pillow Lava.

(See fig. 18.)

Pillow lava is molten rock which has been formed and cooled under water. It is marked by peculiar concentric circles. This type of lava is found on Mt. Ararat right up to the line of the ice-cap at 13,000 feet. Mt. Ararat, at one time, was under water.

Evidence 7: Ocean Salt Content.

Oceanographic research vessels have extracted long, slender cores of sediment which actually showed the cross section of the sea bed. In these sediments are the remains of tiny one-celled creatures called foraminifera. Their sensitive shells chemically recorded the temperature and salinity of the water when they were alive. When they reproduced, the shells were discarded and dropped to the bottom leaving a record of the temperature and salinity of the water in past centuries. Today, modern technology can accurately determine from these shells the temperature and salinity of the water at the time they were living. (See fig. 19.)

Sedimentary samples have been collected from the Gulf of Mexico and have been analyzed by scientists at the Universities of Miami, Rhode island and Cambridge in England. The results revealed that at one time in the past there was a dramatic change in the salinity (salt content) of the sea water—a sharp drop of 10%. This change had to come about by a deluge of fresh water into the Gulf at some time in the past. Only a flood on the scale of Noah’s could have produced such a drastic change. (Where this fresh water came from will be covered in chapter 22.)

Evidence 9: Absence of Meteorites In The Geologic Column.

Scientists continually discover asteroids in our solar system. Thousands have been detected, and there is growing concern that in the not-too-distant future one of these will collide with the Earth. Now it is believed by the evolutionary scientific community that throughout the Earth’s supposed 4¼ billion-year history, there have been meteorite impacts from time to time—such as the one that left a V2-mile-wide crater in Arizona. They believe 50,000 years may have passed between each major impact. Still, there would have been literally tens of thousands of major impacts and hundreds of thousands of minor impacts, like we see on the cratered surface of the moon. However, there is only one problem with this evolutionary notion—there is no evidence to substantiate such a myth. In “older” geologic formations, no signs whatsoever of meteorites have been found. Hundreds of billions of tons of coal and other minerals have been mined all around the world, and there has never been reported any meteoritic material by the mining industry. No meteorites have ever been found in the geologic column, except in the top layer of strata. (See fig. 21.)

Evidence 10: Coal Beds and Oil Deposits.

Does oil really take millions of years to form from dead and decaying vegetation as evolutionism proposes? According to Creation Science, petroleum was formed as a result of the burial of living organisms in the Flood. But because of the influence of evolutionism, many people have a hard time believing petroleum could be formed rather easily in a short period of time.

The fact is, man has discovered a process for doing just that. Recently, Canada announced a new project costing almost 200 million dollars: the construction of a commercial plant which would turn sewage into oil. The plant would use heat to turn half-a-million tons of sewage into 700,000 barrels of oil per year. The entire process is essentially the same as that which forms current oil reserves, it takes only 30 minutes. This helps demonstrate the living things buried beneath the rapidly deposited sediments of the Flood some 4,500 years ago, and subjected to heat caused by the pressure and friction of the vast amount of sediment, could easily have produced today’s oil deposits around the world.

Evidence 11: Redwoods.

Another remarkable testimony to the universal Flood are the giant California redwoods; these are beautiful monuments to the past. No doubt many of them were tiny seedlings when Noah was finally laid to rest. Today, some several thousand years later they are still standing. (See fig. 23.)

The giant redwoods of California are a testimony to the universal Flood. These trees never die of old age. Why, then, are the oldest living specimens only about 3,500 years old? According to evolutionists, they have been around for the last 65 million years.

The redwoods can help us date the Flood and discover the extent of the Flood. The rings of one stump, counted in the early 1900s, revealed the remarkable age of 3,200 years. These giant trees are very resistant to insects, diseases and fire. They never die of old age, but only suffer injuries caused by accidents such as freak windstorms. In fact, never has a redwood tree been found dead from old age. So why aren’t there living specimens much older than approximately 3,500 years? Why aren’t there groves of 5,000 or even 10,000 of these hardy trees? We know from the fossil record that they existed much earlier; sequoia leaves, cones and trunks have been found buried and fossilized in the layers of the Earth among the bones of the dinosaurs. According to evolutionism, dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago—which means that the redwoods have supposedly been around for the last 65 million years. And these finds haven’t been discovered only in isolated areas, but also over a great deal of the Earth’s surface. Thus, for some inexplicable reason, living giant redwoods can be traced back only to around 3,500 years.

Inexplicable unless, of course, one considers the alternative: there was a worldwide catastrophic event known as the Genesis Flood, which accounts for the sudden and complete destruction of trees and dinosaurs, etc.

God has given us a giant timepiece by which we are able to date when the Flood occurred as well as to determine the extent to which it reached.
