Woody Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Does God answer our prayers according to our good or His? Does He consider the Great Controversy when directing the affairs of men. I guess this would depend upon the dedication of the petitioner. It's my prayer that He answer it according to His good. We are called to suffer. That is our task. Are we UP to it. OR are we wimps? By wimps I mean those who would wimp out by pleading with God to have the trial removed even if it would glorify Him before the Universe. It's my prayer to have the strength to live through the trials not to have them removed. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
skyblue888 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 :) Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
Woody Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 Sky. I've seen extremely long posts from you in the past. This has to be an all time record short post coming from your direction. Do you care to expound? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted March 30, 2011 Administrators Posted March 30, 2011 Does God answer our prayers according to our good or His? We are called to suffer. That is our task. Are we UP to it. OR are we wimps? By wimps I mean those who would wimp out by pleading with God to have the trial removed even if it would glorify Him before the Universe. It's my prayer to have the strength to live through the trials not to have them removed. Jesus guaranteed that "In the world you shall have tribulation," but counseled us to "be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." Jesus' overcoming is another one of those merits that skyblue refers to. In His overcoming He has made it possible for us, in fact He makes it possible for us to do what on our own we lack the strength or will to do. I would suppose that is how the martyrs were able to die for the Lord so calmly- through His strength. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
fccool Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 If God answers prayers, I think that happens before you even pray. I think most of people would confuse prayer with some sort of request for God to change His mind. Before quoting paragraphs of the Bible, consider the following: 1) Would the thing that you've prayed for happen if you have not prayed for it? 2) Would any loving father only give something absolutely essential, such us food, shelter, clothing, health-care only if you ask him? I don't think prayer is for asking. Much of the "benefits"-based religious movement rely on such concept... ask whatever hard enough and it will be given. Prayer should be for thanking what we already gotten before we even asked for it. We never asked for life to begin with. It's the greatest gift one could have. Everything else is sort of secondary. Most of the "problems" are due to our society making life far more complicated than it should be. Quote
Woody Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 interesting thoughts there fccool. Thanks. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Administrators Gail Posted March 30, 2011 Administrators Posted March 30, 2011 Yep- good thoughts, indeed! How about that prayer is communication with God for all things in life, not just for needs? Just walking and talking together like friends Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members phkrause Posted March 31, 2011 Members Posted March 31, 2011 How does God talk back? Not sure, but maybe Job could tell us better than most. :) Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
