Woody Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Yet, the wording does not make any sense in that case. It's like you saying.... Hey, I'm leaving it to you to go and buy a loaf of bread. And when I say, I don't really have enough money... you'd say... Are you listening to what I'm saying? I did not say you'll do the buying. I'll buy it for you. All you have to do is to ask me very hard and earnestly. But, if you don't ask, then you probably don't want it anyway. Why not just say that you'll buy it for me to begin with? Exactly. You see ... we get into all kinds of problems when we 'think' we can get in the head of our prophet, change what she says to meet our philosophy, and endorse other than what she actually stated. The issue here is that some believe our prophet could not make a mistaken statement. So they have to go through all kinds of mental and grammatical gymnastics to attempt to 'prove' she meant what she didn't say. Oh brother. It gets tiresome. Administrators Gail Posted March 31, 2011 Administrators Posted March 31, 2011 Heading off to bed, eh, Woody? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
fccool Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Not so cool. What you are saying to the Lord is, "Let me tell you how to teach Your message." No... this is not what I've meant by saying that at all. What that sentence REALLY means is that Kentucky Fried Chicken is the best fast food restaurant. You just have to read it in accord with every other statements I've ever made. Quote
Woody Posted March 31, 2011 Author Posted March 31, 2011 Quote: Kentucky Fried Chicken is the best fast food restaurant May I quote you? For you are seriously dead on with that belief. KFC rocks. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted March 31, 2011 Moderators Posted March 31, 2011 If the joke had been for a majority-Australian audience I'dve said 'dugonged'. Quote Truth is important
fccool Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 Quote: Kentucky Fried Chicken is the best fast food restaurant May I quote you? For you are seriously dead on with that belief. KFC rocks. Don't you get it at all? That's not what I've meant when I've said that KFC is the best fast food. What I really meant is that Panera Bread is. You just have to reconcile the above with my other statements about Panera to clarify that quote. Stop taking my quotes out of proper context! KFC is the best fast food, really means that Panera is. Woody Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 Quote: Stop taking my quotes out of proper context! KFC is the best fast food, really means that Panera is. Ahhh. Now I seeeeeee .... You mean that Wendy's is the best fast food EVER. Thanks for clarifying that. They 'seal' their food there to make sure it's fresh. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted April 1, 2011 Moderators Posted April 1, 2011 So ... it's ALL or None? Which? What do you mean? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Woody Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 You finally get it Well ... I do know that you would never contradict yourself and as I recall ... some years ago you stated that Wendy's was best ... so that helped me to know what you meant. It's good that we are so connected. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Woody Posted April 1, 2011 Author Posted April 1, 2011 I am sealed and am being sealed, like sanctified and being sanctified. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Sonny Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Not so cool. What you are saying to the Lord is, "Let me tell you how to teach Your message." Be careful, Ellen White is not the final word. She grew in her understanding. Quote
Woody Posted April 2, 2011 Author Posted April 2, 2011 Quote: Be careful, Ellen White is not the final word. She grew in her understanding. Good point Sonny Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Sonny Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Quote: Be careful, Ellen White is not the final word. She grew in her understanding. Good point Sonny E.G., Ellen White, in defining sin, states that "sin is that given in the word of God; it is 'the transgression of the law'". Then she goes on to state, "it (sin) is the outworking of a principle at war with the great law of love which is the foundation of the divine government." The law doesn't define sin - it merely gives examples of sin manifested. What then is sin? EGW said "it (sin) is the outworking of a principle at war with the great law of love", but again she didn't define sin. In other words what is the driver behind every transgression? That she doesn't define. Quote
Sonny Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 However, if you take other things that she has written you can define "sin" (singular - as opposed to plural). Here's one: "The lover of self is a transgressor of the law." Where does it say in the law do not love self? As we read the letter of the law we can't find it, but as you begin to understand the spirit of the law your eyes begin to open. Sin, according to Ellen White (and the Bible), is the love of self. This driver produces outward manifestations (plural) that are sinful. The fact that we have this bent to self (the love of self) makes us sinners in and of itself. But the question that begs answering is are we keeping the law as Christ kept it? Let's examine this question: There was not one trace of selfishness in the life of Christ. All who are laborers together with God will have the same spirit [mindset] as their Master had. They will be continually growing away from selfishness, and renouncing self-indulgence, even in things that had once appeared innocent to them.... [LHU 325] If you take this, and many other statements of Ellen White, you have to come to the conclusion that "no" we aren't keeping the law as Christ did. Yes, we are growing into His likeness, but we still retain our love of self. Yes, the last generation of believers will experience perfect agape love. We can see this is the following statement: “Their earthliness must be removed that the image of Christ may be perfectly reflected.” [4SP 438] So this sealing cannot be based on our performance, but rather our faith. Quote
onlyhumanme Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I like what sonny wrote above, although we can keep the love of self concept simple by saying loving yourself is perfect, humble, you are the temple of god love your neibour as yourself etc..but being 'in love with yourself',selfrighteous, proud, selfish is sin. Each person has his or her own battles to fight, his or her own Christian experience to gain, independent in some respects from any other person; and God has lessons for each to gain that no other can gain for him.Much of life is left to its own course so we each have a unique path and from our own experiences discover 'righteous and true are you lord'. So being sealed will come down to your personal walk with God and your relationship with him and there will be different personality types and experiences all sealed in the 144000 but all will have been refined in their journey. It is developing your character to be in the likeness of his and getting to know who he is through listening quietly and on our walk with christ. Many people are driven to do works by the fear of Wrathfull Almighty God(the lamb:D)or websters dictionary interpretations of his words and ways so they sadly cannot be sealed because the sealed will find God innocent and be singing the praises knowing that God is actually very righteous. well thats only my basic understanding.. Quote thou left thy first love-agape
