Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted April 1, 2011 Administrators Posted April 1, 2011 Some folk have the routine every Spring of clearing and cleaning their house and yard. Get rid of junk. Get rid of stuff you have no use for any more or that is outdated or past it's expiration date. Put away the stuff that's out of season. Spiff up the place. Rearrange the furniture. Clean the windows. Air out the place. Root up the old dead plants from the flower beds. Pick up all the dead sticks. Prune the bushes. Freshen the place up. How about Spring cleaning for the mind? Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Administrators Gail Posted April 1, 2011 Administrators Posted April 1, 2011 Like get out of your mental comfort zone? Have you tried this? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
CoAspen Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 Sounds like good idea! Time to get rid of all the old samo-samo replies as well, if I can't do it fresh or new knowledge...then why repeat! Mind cleaning...re examen, see if it is useful, use or toss it out, make room for additional learning!! Quote
Woody Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 I guess we could call it a 'cleansing of the mind sanctuary'. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
hch Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 The mind is set up like the sanctuary with three compartments Quote His child Henry Bible student/Author https://www.loudcry101.com
whatisthis Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 The Sanctuary is a real place in heaven, but it has many spiritual correlations which teach about Christ and His sanc-tifying (sanc-turary-tifying?) work in our lives, His work of grace! From the altar with it's lamb, representing the cross of Christ in the courtyard, to the mercy seat over the law representing (once again) Christ's merciful sacrifice for us, the whole place is built on the plan that was put in place from the foundation of the world for Christ to be the Lamb who is victorious! I love to think about God's Sanctuary work. However I believe you'll find the mind has four main compartments, not just three. There's the frontal lobe, the temporal lobe, the parietal lobe, and the occipital lobe. The frontal lobe is a center for choice, the temporal lobe is for auditory thought, the parietal lobe if for mechanical/art--(things you feel or know the function of,)and the occipital lobe is for visual perception. Each of those lobes are divided into two hemispheres, a right and a left. One hemisphere tends to details, the other overall effects. An illustration of this is not being able to "see the trees for the forest". One hemisphere would deal with the trees, or details, the other with the forest or the overall effect. Being left brained, or right brained is something a lot of perceptual therapists and psychologists talk about, but we actually have to be some of both to accomplish most tasks. And those are not the only compartments in the brain. Underneath those four lobes are the limbic system where smells, passions, etc. are attended to. And there's the brain stem. And hey, this is wayyyy too simplified. God has built a lot of orderly beauty into the way our physical plant for thinking is built. Quote more later

Overaged Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 My corpus callosum hurts after all that. Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." Overaged Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 That's entirely possible Henry Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)"I cannot know why suddenly the stormshould rage so fiercely round me in it's wrathBut this I know: God watches all my pathAnd I can trust""God helps us to draw strength from the storm" - OveragedFaith makes things possible; it does not make them easy, Steps To Christ
Overaged Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Isn't "mind-cleaning" something that cannot be done without God's help? Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)"I cannot know why suddenly the stormshould rage so fiercely round me in it's wrathBut this I know: God watches all my pathAnd I can trust""God helps us to draw strength from the storm" - OveragedFaith makes things possible; it does not make them easy, Steps To Christ
erika42lyn Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Tom, Happy Sabbath! I'm reading your post just before heading out to Sunnydale Academy for music fest, my daughter is a 6th grader and will participate. I think back on the journey that God has led my family and the spring cleaning that He has helped us to do--- the way we view and do things. We used to save up and plan expensive vacations.... as of last summer we were planning on going on a cruise. There is nothing wrong with that. But the Lord impressed us for us to view our vacation time differently. We are still planning but we are desiring to go on a mission trip early 2012 for several weeks. We're still 'spring cleaning' our minds and it is not easy. Just like in real life we sometimes have to convince ourselves we really don't need the junk and can do without--- our minds are very much like this. I love the idea of 'spring cleaning' our minds and will borrow this for our family worship. May God bless you and Happy Sabbath! Erika Quote Erika
