HMS Richards meets EGW 1909

Dr. HMS Richards Senior of VOP meets EGW for the first time as a young man:

She was absolutely sincere, it seemed to me. She was very plain in her clothes, black dress a little white around the wrists. She was quiet, friendly, just like a dear old saint of the Lord, a Christian mother.

It was in Boulder, Colorado and I was in my mid-teens 1909, I think. She and her son and Miss McEnterfer, her nurse and companion was with her.

It was in a building with an iron roof. And she got up to speak of the latter rain. And, her voice was conversational tone but she changed her voice as well. And, she had a speaking voice as well, it was just like a silver bell…. no amplifiers and you could hear every word she said. A thousand people there, could hear it all. She used over a hundred texts, I counted them, big floppy bible in her hand. When she talked about 40 minutes, her son Willie White got up and came up behind her and said, .. "Mother you’re tired and you’ve come a long way and you have some big journeys left ahead of you we don’t want you to get too tired so if you can’t continue." And, she said, "Oh, I’m not quite through and I haven’t prayed yet. I want to pray before I get through." And, so she finished up I should say, her talk in about 3 minutes.

Then she kneeled down on the front of that platform it was about 2 feet high and she was on the side next to me. I was probably 20-25 feet from her. And, she began to pray and she began with these words, “OOOh My Father” (not our Father), and do you know in 2 or 3 minutes I was afraid to look up. I was afraid I would see God there. The mighty power that came over me and over that audience, would never be forgotten. And, she continued to pray just a little while, and then you could hear sobs all over that audience….sinners weeping before God. There was nothing in her prayer excitable… just prayed calmly and quietly. But the power of the Lord came in there. It was a great mountain peak in my life and as a young fellow and I look back to it with great pleasure to know that I was there close to her to hear her and see her. The impression was that she was just what we believed her to be….God’s special servant for these last days.

Thank you Honey for this inspiring message

The rules of life

- Love and serve God

- Remember choices, not circumstances, determine the flavor of our lives

- Live each day so that you'll never be afraid of tomorrow nor ashamed of yesterday

It sounds just like the idea I get from reading her writings and what the pioneers said.
