Woody Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 The dictionary defines it as: Quote: 1. the systematic study of the existence and nature of the divine and its relationship to and influence upon other beings In Other Words ... the dictionary belives it is a study of the "Nature of Christ". That can get rather deep in Adventist circles. Is this what we believe theology to be in Adventist Circles? And if so ... is the discussion of things other than the "Nature of Christ" considered to be out of order for this forum? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

This is why it would be nice to have a Religious or Spiritual Thread rather than forcing those who don't want to be in a THEOLOGICAL Thread to discuss "religious" or spiritual topics here. Moderators John317 Posted April 8, 2011 Moderators Posted April 8, 2011 Theology is the study of God, and it includes all of God's self-revelation in the Bible. Theology is 2.the field of study and analysis that treats of god and of God's attributes and relations to the universe; study of divine things or religious truth; divinity. 2. a particular form, system, branch, or course of this study Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Overaged Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 I would just add, in agreement, that "theology" is most accurately described as the systematic study of God. (God the Father, God the Son, God The Holy Spirit). Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)"I cannot know why suddenly the stormshould rage so fiercely round me in it's wrathBut this I know: God watches all my pathAnd I can trust""God helps us to draw strength from the storm" - OveragedFaith makes things possible; it does not make them easy, Steps To Christ
skyblue888 Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 Here is an inspired definition of what, for the most part, constitutes theology, as studied and taught, even in our schools and forums as well: "Theology, to a great degree, as studied and taught, is but a record of human speculation serving only to darken counsel by words without knowledge." M.H.442. Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
Woody Posted April 9, 2011 Author Posted April 9, 2011 "Do they not pay the minister well for studying the Bible for them, that they need not be to the trouble? and is it not his business to tell them what they must believe, and to settle all doubtful questions of theology without special investigation on their part?" Ellen White CH 37 "You are a mental dyspeptic. Your mind has been crammed with knowledge of all sorts,--politics, history, theology, and anecdote,--only a part of which can be retained by the abused memory." Ellen White in 4T497 Not a ringing endorsement for theology if it is placed with politics. Perhaps we should have a theology/politics/anecdotal thread. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Overaged Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 I really like that phrase "mental dispeptic." That will be a very nice addition to my witnessing charisma. That word is banned from further use. Once EGW used it ... it has been officially retired. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won.
