tribeofjudah Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 Who sacked Babylon during that fateful night when the "handwriting" was on the wall....?(Daniel 5) Cyrus was prophesied to "open the double gates" in Isaiah 45. But that fateful night ...it states that Darius the Mede took the kingdom at age 62.(Daniel 5:31) I like history and the name Cyrus is a choice name for my soon to be born son. Would it be correct to say that Cyrus was the KING and Darius was his "right hand" man...? That Cyrus ruled from Persia, while Darius was given rule of Media by Cyrus...? History seems to suggest that the 2 were somehow related: uncle/nephew or cousins or whatnot? Daniel seems to indicate that Darius was "physically" the man in charge during the siege, he was there.....but the directives surely would have come from Cyrus the Great. Either way, they were both Instruments of God to bring about His plan through history. Quote
wayfinder Posted April 17, 2011 Posted April 17, 2011 I remember finding this explaination somewhere a few years ago. Cyrus is a title given to the ruler of the M-P empire and Darius was the actual name of the king. If you were to introduce Darius as ruler you would say, this is Darius, Cyrus of Medo-Persia. Quote
