Woody Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 ? It does me ... Whoops, the entire photo didn't make it but you get the idea. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 Not seeing any photo at all. Photos that don't show up bother me, though. Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 Hold on technical difficulties It doesn't seem to be downloading. It did the first time but only half of the photo. Then when I tried to do it again ... I got nothing. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Members phkrause Posted April 28, 2011 Members Posted April 28, 2011 What glass stained windows?? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Woody Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 Third time was a charm Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 The photo program on the Forum here has been having some problems lately. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 It makes a good point, actually. For many of the young people, their religion is the gangs and painting graffiti. I think it's important for everyone to know this and work to correct the problem. It affects all of society. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 I had a different take on it, as being a representation of a relevant faith for young people - and of their desire for it. The 'lives of the saints' that are the theme of most stained-glass windows are pretty remote for most urban youth... but God is not. Quote Truth is important
Moderators John317 Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 Yes, I can see your point. I think both ideas work with this painting. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 Briefer: God is the God of the inner city too, and while He will definitely challenge some elements of that culture, the art is probably not first on His list... Quote Truth is important
Moderators John317 Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 I bet if you ask the creator of this art work, he would tell you that he wants people to be "bothered." Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 http://saberone.com/blog/2011/04/17/art-...a-via-la-times/ Quote: This elevation of street art in the museum — essentially, the show’s premise — is the target of the ubiquitous Banksy’s contribution. He asked local high school students to tag panels in myriad colors and then framed them inside a drawing of a Gothic arch that resembles a stained glass window in a church. Below, he added an illustration of a praying figure kneeling next to a can of paint. The piece suggests that enshrining graffiti art within the museum turns it into an icon requiring our submission. Mind you, this is a reviewer's interpretation: I suspect Banksy's intentions are a bit more multilayered than that... Quote Truth is important
SivartM Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 I don't know why anyone would be bothered by it. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 I think perhaps you underestimate the capacity of some people for figuring out whole new things to be bothered by. Quote Truth is important
Liz Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Maybe he is praying for strength to clean it up? He has a paint (maybe water?) can and a huge brush in front of him, kids who do gang signs and tags use spraycans. Quote For what will a man be profited, if he gains the whole world, and forfeits his soul? Mat. 16:26Please, support the JDRF and help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. Woody Posted April 28, 2011 Author Posted April 28, 2011 I don't know why anyone would be bothered by it. It's actually quite simple. I consider it vandalism not art. And in this case ... Vandalism on God's House. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
SivartM Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Well, if it's in a museum, it's not vandalism. And even if it's not authorized, my Banksy-fan friends would strongly disagree with you. I understand the gang connotations of graffiti, but those are becoming less and less the case. Graffiti is becoming the art it's always said it was. Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
Moderators Bravus Posted April 28, 2011 Moderators Posted April 28, 2011 It's not 'on God's house', Woody. If some kids had tagged over a real stained-glass window, *that* would bother me! The article I linked explains how the piece came to be. Quote Truth is important
Woody Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 I never went to the article. Thanks for fillin' me in. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
David Edgren Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 It's awesome! I see a young man praying. I see a stained glass window that's relevant. I see a call to authentic worship. Have you tagged the stain glass windows in your life? Perhaps we should look for ways to be "brothered" rather than "bothered." Quote Adventures in the Bible
Woody Posted April 29, 2011 Author Posted April 29, 2011 thanks 'brother' I am no longer bothered now that I learned it's not a church. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
