So, what's missing from this conversation...

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

original thoughts Tom, that's what's missing! :<img src='http://clubadventist.com/forums/uploads/default_wee.gif' alt='wee'>:

There is a time and a place for everything.

This isn't the place...

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

I listened to about half of it and then bailed out. Actually, I only needed to listen to the first minute, about 45 seconds, before I knew it was "false doctrine" for lack of a better phrase.

The biblical account of Sodom stands as fact, it's not an opinion, or a theory. Except, to those who are so diluted and brain washed they cannot accept the historical biblical truth of the matter and consider it little more than an "opinion".

Sounds like a classic case of higher education (falsely so called) replacing simple faith and belief in a higher power with their new god, "intellectualism".

But saying the above, I may have inadvertantly proven their theory on "superiority"! Oh well, sometimes you just gotta call it like you see it and let the chips fall where they may. :)

Perhaps this would be a fit here.

"Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done. "Romans 1:28 NLT

I agree; his first example was a poor choice.

BTW; it must be nice to have time and energy to scour the net for such things! (no offence intended).

Now that example is more to the point, and as the gospel is, simple enough for a child to understand, which child Jesus says one must become before they have ability to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

And it does seem important to recognize that God's "opinion" of them, whatever their practice, was to wipe them from the face of the earth.

Shrug. Tried to make it friendly and fun.

Seems like that last answer was the "funnest" of all.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

(can't believe I'm getting into this again)

The fact that the poster says 'sodomites' have been the filth of the earth for 6000 years shows that he was using the word - as is very common - to refer to homosexual people, not the citizens of the city of Sodom, who were around for considerably less than 6000 years.

It's actually a reasonably clear and simple logical analysis.

If it is, I have never heard anyone say it. They say lots of other things, but I don't think it's too common today, at least in the US, for people to call them "filth." Today the attitude toward gays is a lot better than it was in the 1960s and 1970s.

The important thing is to be able to condemn homosexual practices while loving the person who's practicing it. I do not find it at all hard to do that. In fact, it comes natural to me.

Last night I was counseling (by IM) a young man, an SDA 20 years old, who lives in Africa. He feels that he's homosexual and he wants to study theology. He's never acted it out before. I was encourging him to do what he knows is right. He needs a lot of help and prayer. Just pray for the young man in Africa. God will know who you mean.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Haha, I KNEW this would happen if someone posted that video. Funniest thread I've seen on here so far :D

That is true. And the laws against sodomy in the U.S. have consistently been applied in that context.

Lev 18 also significantly condemns the practice.

Look, the video referrenced Sodom and Sodomites as recorded in the bible thousands of years ago and called them "filthy". Thats a FACT. The OPINION, of some, is that the term "filthy" can be applied to todays homosexuals.

Really? So, when was the last time you saw a roving group of homosexuals willing to kill anyone who stood in their way or raping whom ever they chose? If the term "filthy" is offensive in describing this, literally, killer group, what phrase would be more acceptable?

Monster or pathological?

Absolute last post from me on this, and I'm not even going to comment. I'm simply going to transcribe, directly from the video, the post that was made:

"Sodomites are the filth of a society as 6,000 years of history have shown. The Bible supports this fact. You are so diluted and brainwashed you thing (sic) theories and opinions are fact."

Actually, one question: do you believe the people of Sodom lived 6,000 years ago?

Truth is important

Bravus,

You should have known what the topic would deteriorate into......the tendency is to always dismiss the trust of most topic matters around here and go off in a tangential direction. Tis the incompetency of internet forums continually to be demonstrated!!!!

The 6,000 year referrence is of no consequence to the subject, in my opinion. Different people have different time frames they place on the age of the earth and certain historical events. 6,000, 4,000, whatever. It DOES show the author is in disagreement to some others, like myself, as to a more accurate and I think reasonable time frame. But, it's close enough for the intended purpose of the point he is making, to wit, some thousands of years ago. :)

If the question was specifically asking do I believe in the Sodom historical record as laid out in the bible, yes, I do. It was a real town, with real (bad) people that ended in sudden destruction. For their sinful and filthy life style.

Yep... Yet another adventure in missing the point, which ironically in this case is proving the point!

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.
