Seriously though, the last round of TP demonstrations produced very low numbers. I think the GOP has successfully co-opted the TP. Isn't Tea party mad with the GOP right now?

I think the Tea Party is simply a bookmark in the textbooks of history. Much like the hobos that camped outside the White House in the early '30s in their "hoovervilles". The wind in their sails was the high unemployment rate and mortgage crisis. As the economy slowly recovers the Tea Party is likely to fade away. Its time and purpose having passed.

The big issue that remains is deficit spending. President Obama is proving that he is a tax and spend liberal. His excuses for deficit spending are wearing thin. His desire is to tax the "rich" but I see that as a separate issue. Let's get back to 2007-level spending and then decide if we need to tax the rich. We were fighting a war that the liberals claimed was so expensive in 2007. There is no excuse why we can't shrink the budget to what it was prior to the 2008 Presidential campaign. That would show real leadership but the only desire for that seems to be in Congress.

Keep in mind that if the tea party is not over,the party for the takers will be over or much less.

You are going to have to pry your tax dollar out of their clutches which will not be easy.

I couldn't disagree more. More and more people are understanding that the Tea Party is correct in its desire for smaller government, lower taxes, and much, much less government spending. We are bankrupt from the spending, and Obama has no plans to reduce the amount of money he borrows every year.

Our real debt is over $100 trillion dollars. It is insanity to keep adding to it. All delaying the the end by massive government spending will do is result in an even greater collapse when it does come.

You cannot borrow and spend your way out debt. That's called a ponzi scheme and is fraud, yet that is exactly what our government is doing.

The Columbia Tea Party went from Donald Trump to jilted chump after the celebrity businessman canceled his appearance at Thursday’s State House rally, and state legislators approved tax breaks and spending that the group opposed.

Trump’s decision to not enter the GOP presidential race left local Tea Party leaders stewing about the way they had been treated. But about 30 people were on hand Thursday to thank Gov. Nikki Haley, lawmakers and activists for their work to require more on-the-record Legislative votes.

It was all part of a tough week for the state’s Tea Party movement.

Herman Cain, whose stock has been rising in recent weeks told an audience in Council Bluffs, Iowa that he was running for president:

Friday evening in Council Bluffs, the Atlanta businessman announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012.

Cain spoke to a crowd of 200 people at Iowa Western Community College. His announcement was met with a standing ovation.

Cain's press secretary said the official announcement will be made on Saturday.

The buzz generated by a Cain candidacy among Republican activists no doubt contributed to his decision to make a go of it. He has been met with enthusiasm just about anywhere he has spoken in recent months, and online activists have been especially gung ho about his potential candidacy.

His is a long shot candidacy at this point, but 2012 is not going to be a usual year. If Sarah Palin decides not to run, Cain would emerge as a tea party favorite and perhaps even a front runner in some primaries like South Carolina.

At this point, it would be foolish to count anyone out.
