A bit surprised that I could access this article here in China. This website is obviously not blocked here either. Both good signs.

As for what the article claims, I'm not spook, but what the US is claiming is happening is totally and completely in character for China. And I suppose the US does the same thing, so American should stop wining. The US has spies in every country in the world save Canada, the UK, and Australia. You think they rule ANY type of recruitment as off-limits? American methods of recruiting agents just as duplicitous. After all, that is the name of the game.

To be honest, I read with a bemused smile the article of Chinese spies in the U.S. When China pressed the U.S. congress for a permanent trading status relationship with the U.S. in the year 2000. There were not a few voices raised with concern about China's human rights policy, and about the transfer of sensitive technologies.

The United States continues to pay China hundreds of billions of dollars every year for it's share of interest payments, ( China has passed Japan as the largest holder of American debt)

One can only ask, " If you were a nation with that kind of income stream, what would you do with it?" To be frankly honest, Technology shopping seems to the easiest and most quickest way to upgrade. ( has anyone plunked down some money to upgrade to the newest I phone 4 lately)

If it ends up that China has finally purchased every militarily sensitive technology, I would have to place the blame squarely on the shoulders of the U.S. Congress who supplied China with the means to buy them in the first place.

We do collect intelligence in and on these countries, but we don't have operations officers who actively recruit agents to provide us with info which would be considered treasonous for the asset who provided it. These governments have very close working relationships with the US agencies anyway and there isn't much we don't share.
