Just as it is impossible for a man to walk upon the water unless God commands it and that man acts upon that word by faith, so it is impossible to live the Christian life unless by faith we act upon the command to live that life. To those who believe that the merits of a crucified and risen Saviour are sufficient to present to God in their behalf for their acceptance with God, the command to live the Christian life is given. "You shall love your God supremely and your neighbour as yourself." That word imparts power, it begets life, even a new life in Christ Jesus, because it is the Voice of God speaking to the soul in promise. It brings with it the life of the Infinite One enabling the hearer to walk as Jesus walked. It enables those who incline the ear to live above the troubling waters of their own sinful natures and thus to fulfill the will of God on earth as it is in Heaven.
