Woody Posted May 14, 2011 Posted May 14, 2011 What has happened to the good old days when people were responsible? Nowadays if one has private property he has to put up signs indicating all the activities he doesn't want on his property. For instance - If I didn't want people swimming on my property I would have to put up a sign. I would also have to include No hunting. No trespassing. No Fishing. No cursing No swearing. On and on. It used to be in the olden days - that if you wanted to trespass or hunt or fish or swim on someone's property - you would simply go and visit them once and make a request. Now I realize that is old fashioned. Today one would text or Facebook them. But the principle remains. Am I THAT old? Okay. Yes. I know I am. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
karl Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 What has happened to the good old days when people were responsible? The "victim" mentality. As sinners we are all basically selfish which leads to the victim mentality. From the very first sin the blame game started. It's everybody else's fault. This mentality is reinforced in this country by a particular form of parasite called a "personal injury attorney." If you don't know one, just look at the cover of any phone book. Quote

So now that the parasites have been irradicated, your insurance company says 'no' to something that is supposed to be covered in the policy....what are you going to do...."Call Ghost Busters"? Quote

Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 20, 2011 Administrators Posted May 20, 2011 A noteworthy occasion... Let's have a celebration! I agree with you Bonnie! And I would add that many of these very high personal injury awards are awarded by a jury. That is a jury of ordinary citizens. Nobody twist their arms to go for the max on these awards. And as to the liability and the award amount, there are lawyers on both sides of that argument going in opposite directions. And I agree with karl's point that we are infested with a victim mentality where we have to blame someone else for whatever bad comes our way. Glad I have a strong heart, may not be able to take the shock:) Sucessful frivilous lawsuits are highly overated. Regardless of the ethics of the attorney most are taken on a contingency basis and the lawyer doesn't get paid if he loses. The ridiculous lawsuits that do win are highly reported making it seem like they are the norm. Only a complete idiot views a lawsuit as easy money. Personal injury often requires the injured to sue whether they want to or not if they want the medical bills paid. Due to a nasty fall in my backyard I ended up with knee and hip replacement. After surgery I received a notice from my insurance and medicare that I needed to provide information under penalty of perjury how ,where and if other people were involved in my injury before either would pay.Had circumstances been such that it was elsewhere or others involved I would have been looking for a blood sucking personal injury attorney to pay my many thousands in medical bills. This would have gone on for years and disrupted my personal life.Only those that have not had to endure years of personal questions, court dates, hearings think it is a easy way to make money Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted May 21, 2011 Administrators Posted May 21, 2011 Definitely not easy, and not quick and easy. When I am asked by someone if they should sue, I often ask if they enjoyed the experience that brought them to considering suit. Then I tell them to prepare themselves to relive that experience over and over, often in slow motion if they sue. I had one man with a weak heart say he just wasn't willing to subject himself to the sustained stress of litigating a legitimate financial claim. He dropped it and ate the loss.
