fccool Posted May 21, 2011 Posted May 21, 2011 ... of Harold Camping and his followers that is. These people are judged by virtually anyone who reads/watches the news, all around the world. I do have a sense of pity for these guys. I hope that none will do anything stupid. Many of them spent their life savings warning others, which is quite commendable IMO... although misplaced. If these religious fold would be as passionate about building up their communities and empowering people around them, I think it would be money better spent. After all, what do you expect people to do if they hear "Judgement is tomorrow... better get ready!". What should they do? Should they repent on the last day, sort of invalidating the rest of their lives? Should they party more? Should they sell everything and donate to the poor? I mean, that's sort of what makes me uneasy about "proclaiming the end of the world soon". Shouldn't we be living "right" instead of living in loathing of past, and anticipation of the horrible future (for everyone else that is)? Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see how these people handle all of the ridiculing. I really hope they'll have some support through all of this. Quote
Moderators Gerr Posted May 21, 2011 Moderators Posted May 21, 2011 Knowingly or unknowingly, he has done a lot of damage to the cause of God and the truth about the Second Coming. When the message about the Second Coming is preached, a lot of people will just laugh and say it's another nut case preaching a failed message. Read the comments on the news reports. The skeptics and scoffers are having a field day. He either does not know or does not believe what the Bible says. But some are saying Camping made $72 million from this, and I suppose, if that is true, he can go to the bank Monday morning with a smile on his face. Quote

fccool Posted May 21, 2011 Author Posted May 21, 2011 I doubt he's made money from this. If he did, he'd be arrested/sued before he made it to the bank. You can definitely expect some law suits from disgruntled followers. But you are correct. Some reporters/articles did compare him to William Miller. I wonder if he'll go about it similar way and say that something else happened... like "spiritual second coming", and just re-group his followers around some new doctrine. Quote
Light Fox Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Personally, I find the amount of ridiculing I've seen from Adventists of all people to be disgraceful. If all the Great Disappointment taught us was to be the scoffers for other people's failed advent predictions, it's a sad commentary indeed. If anything, Adventists are in the best position to know what the followers of that group are going to be experiencing after midnight, and to offer some insight and comfort. When it comes to making claims about Christ's return and them not coming to fruition, we really don't have room for stone throwing. Quote www.Adventistry.to/Answers
fccool Posted May 22, 2011 Author Posted May 22, 2011 I do agree, but perhaps we should take it a step further with what you've said above... We should not be so sure about the interpretation that we have absolutely no room open for other possibilities. When Harold Camping was asked what would he do if he woke up on May 22nd and there was no second coming, he absolutely refused to answer the question and thought that answering it would demonstrate "lack of faith", yet he was so absolutely sure that "the evidence from the Bible" was there that he refused to consider other possibilities. Unfortunately, it does sound familiar. Quote

Unfortunately, it does sound familiar. and that's the problem--the bible itself. By using the words of Jesus and the prophecy found in Daniel, Harold Camping could never have come up with this prediction. First of all, NONE of the events tied to the time of trouble have even started yet. Dan' 2's rock cut out without hands has not smashed all of the other kingdoms of the world yet. But, don't forget that there IS a template and if you understand it, then you will be able to figure out when the coming in the clouds will take place. There was a good reason God did not make the new moons go evenly into a year! Quote

skyblue888 Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 We are no more ready for the second coming of Christ than were the Jews for His first coming. So much has to take place before we can even talk about the coming of Christ. The second call of Matt.22 must first be proclaimed in latter rain power to the professed church. Church and State uniting to enforce Sunday as the day of worship in the hope of appeasing an angry God on account of all the disasters befalling the earth. The loud cry must be carried to all parts of the earth. Time for the buy-and-sell decree and the death decree. Probation closing, time of Jacob's trouble for the faithful few while the plagues are falling, and then the second coming. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." The skeptics and scoffers are having a field day. You are right about this event being "designed" as loud obfuscating background noise for SDAs trying to uphold the Bible teaching of the 3 angels messages. In Matt 24 we are told that no man knows the day or the hour but in that same chapter we are also told that we SHOULD be aware of the times - knowing when it is near. What the pagans are missing is that the REASON that no one knows the day or the hour - is because WHEN God speaks (at the Voice of God event at the end of the 7 last plagues) and announces the day and the hour - there is NO WARNING message given to the lost! That which they suppose to be so comforting about Harold Camping's failure is in fact the worst news possible for them. There will never be an evangelistic message going out to the world warning them that on such and such a day and hour the 2nd coming will happen. Rather, the event comes to the lost as a theif in the night - no announcement at all will be given to the lost world other than these false alarms we see from groups like Family Radio. Thus anyone proclaiming such a day and hour message is mistaken. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
skyblue888 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 I agree too except for one minor point, the time when God announces the day and the hour is at the time of the fifth plague, not at the end of the 7 last plagues. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
ClubV12 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 "...at the time of the fifth plague,.." I've heard you say that before, I was sure it was at the top of the 7th? I guess I'll have to go back and look that whole timeline thing over more closely. Hailstones, the 7th plague, are falling WHEN the Lord speaks the day and hour? How do we get the 5th plague out that? "The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people." GC 640:3 This appears to happen while the hailstones are falling. Quote
wayfinder Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 At the time of the fifth plague, knowing the day and hour won't have any particular meaning, if one can count. The Son of God returns at the sixth plague(bowl of wrath), all one needs to do is watch for the signs of the sixth bowl. The announcement of the day and hour is given only to the bondservants (144,000) see (Testimonies for the Church), Vol. 1, page 59 Quote
