Anyone here suffer from chronic pain?

I don't, but I don't enjoy having pain and wonder what it must be like to have it day in and day out, all the time.

A number of elderly folk I know suffer continual aches and pains.

How does one cope?

I've had ache's and pains my whole life or at least as far back as I can remember. Have almost never taken anything for them. Maybe that's why I almost also never go to the doctor, always figured that they are a part of life. But maybe that's not the aches' and pains you are speaking of?

I have a crippled foot from having a nerve removed because two doctors said that I had Morton's Neuroma. After it started hurting again Jewitt Orthopedic Clinic said that it was actually Arthritis of the Joint and they can't repair what the other two did. I try not to limp but the pain is there 24/7. Both hips are also arthritic. I had a cortisone shot last week on one side because of Bursitus on top of the arthritic joint...............It seems to have worked!!!! EXCEPT... that the bursitis thumbed its nose and me and jumped over to the other hip................I have to wait until Thursday for a shot on that side.......The Hydroco/Apap 500 then 750, then 1000 doesn't seem to help much................ Other than that and the daily headaches. life is just dandy.....And how is YOUR day????(and night)...

Hate to be one of those who pops up with unsolicited advice, Nuff Sed, but if you're getting daily headaches have you been checked out for sleep apnea? I was getting them, was diagnosed with it, got a machine to sleep with and feel much better. On the other hand, if you already know perfectly well what's causing them and it's not that, my apologies and please ignore!

On chronic pain, it's tough to even imagine, and it's one of the (many) things that should make us remember that others have a tougher row to hoe and that we should treat them gently.

Paul Feyerabend, one of my favourite philosophers, was wounded in World War 2 and in chronic pain from then until he died in 1994, but it didn't stop him having a full life, a great sense of humor and making a really significant contribution to the philosophy of science.

Thanx, Bravus... I have been sleeping with a Bi-Pap for the past 15 years. It makes absolutely no difference in the way I feel in the morning when I wake up. I use it because my pulmonary doctor says that I should. I am cancelling my next appointment (6 months) because I heard him says that he doesn't know what to try next...I do not have to pay him to tell me that... I will need your address so that when I come out there to Freeload for several months I will know where to find you..... Regards, Nuff sed

My husband has two crushed vertebra and nerve damage to the point that he has no feeling down his left leg, plus he has cranial nerve degeneration. It has caused him to go blind, he has constant ear aches and dizzyness. The spinal damage happened in 1994, he was dx'd with CND in 2006.

If you ask him how he copes, he will say lots of time spent in prayer and talking with God, not in asking God to take the pain away, but in asking God how HE wants to be served with the new limitations. He says, then it's fun to watch God work. He also says it helps to have a pushy wife that won't allow wallowing in self-pity for to long.

Pushy?!? I thought I was encouraging. (<shrug> who knew?)

Anyways that is our answer. :)
