Much of what is said in that article is correct - but the "been there done that" comment makes it "appear" that our use of Bible prophecy and Campings "reach" for things that have nothing at all to do with Bible prophecy - are in some was equivalent.

I beg to differ.

A key lesson in the Camping case is the totally atrocious Bible-munging that he did to come up with those dates. No equivalence at all for someone using the 2300 days that the Bible itself declares to be predictive of the "time of the end", and using it to predict the "time of the end".

No matter how flawed the expectation of the Millerites - they at least got that part right!

The other thing that should be highlighted is the fact that the "good news" in Matt 23:36 that "no man knows" is not the "good news" that everyone has imagined. Notice how the news stations and even non-Christians were only too happy to hold up Matt 24:36 as their rock of defense both in the case of the Millerites and in the case of Family Radio?

It is like saying to the lost "God has a gun pointed at you - and no one knows when it will go off - but it surely will go off". The various ways that people come up with to view that as "a good thing" just shows that they have not thought it through.

So "yes" it is a true statement - but 'no' it is not all that great news for the lost.

The other thing to consider is that the SUBTEXT for the entire event was an effort to smear not only SDA history in the Millerite movement - but also to blind those living today and prejudice them against any message that claims the Bible points us down to the time of the end - and that the "end is near".

Notice that on the Fox-40 TV interview that Doug Bachelor did last Sabbath - the news reporter quickly goes to the point "so the end is NOT near right?" (Something similar to that point). Doug had to correct him by saying that his opposition to Camping was not a claim that the 2nd coming, the end of the world "is not near".

Don't miss this - that is a key objective in the subtext for the Camping fiasco.

Also notice how much more closely - Camping's "new recovery" message is to the actual Bible language on the close of probation and end of the world sequence of Rev 15:8 - through - the end of Rev 16!
