I wonder do they mean Sydney specifically or Australia more broadly? The sentence is ambiguous.

I think some sectors of the community in Australia are enthusiastically embracing secularism: the large atheist conferences each year are envied by other places in the world. Other parts of Australia are quite devout.

Australia is more secular than America - but so is every other major developed country. Australia is less secular than Scandinavia, and probably than England too.

Australia is the home of Hillsong, source of most of the world's contemporary worship music.

So, I dunno, others may have different perspectives, but to me it just sounds like advertising copy.
