As I rounded the corner of the trail to start up a short incline, there he/she stood. About the size of an average dog, the coyote had a startled yet defiant look. I too was startled with a bit of fear if it would attack me being that we were so close. Seconds seemed like minutes in this confrontation; the coyote with its wild primeval countenance, me with the appearance of the intruder from the civilized urban world.

But who was more stately in countenance? I came away the loser - the estranged human creation who was expelled from the Garden. It seemed to know this and looked at me with disdain and pity as it trotted off into the underbrush leaving me to shuffle off back home to deal with my human plight.

But there was magic for a moment in that chance encounter. Nature and me - she got the upper hand

Have you had any chance encounters with Mother Nature?

We are our worst enemy - sad but true.

Hiking in the rainforest on the Olympic peninsula when I was around 10, I came across a giant.....SLUG!!! I screamed! It was about a foot long and 4 inches in diameter! I hope never to see one again!!!!

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

I once had a shark swim straight toward my face and at the last second go over my head, its belly lightly brushing through my hair. It was a beautiful caress!

A few weeks ago I noticed an outside refridgerator door inadvertently left open. I closed it and went back into the house. The next day the door was seen open again, only this time a loaf of bread had obviously been assaulted with intent to extricate the loaf. I thought perhaps the 'coons were back again this year and put a cinch strap around the 'fridge to keep the door closed.

Some time later that day, a hot one, I went out to retrieve something and bending over, noticed debris scattered under the van. Going around the van I came across a fawn already expired, obviously from lack of water and mother's milk.

When I realized how I had inadvertently closed the only avenue of nourishment to this lost, helpless creature, I could not stop the tears from flowing, knowing that it had been in my power to give life or death to this small, desperate animal.

Later on in retrospect, I wondered how often I may have been responsible for the spiritual death or near death of an unwitting soul, someone thirsting for the Water of Life, but

hindered as a result of someone else's personal selfishness.

How important it is to always be open for the Holy Spirit's leading when dealing with the bread of Life.

Even so, Come Lord Jesus!!

God blesses! peace

Lift Jesus up!!

I believe in life before death

My mother in law is staying with us for a couple of months. She used to go for a long early morning walk after walking our son to school. A week ago she saw a very long "stick" in the road which suddenly stretched out. It moved too slowly to get out of the way of a car.

My eldest son and I went to go and take a look and see if it was still alive. We found nothing. Later, as I was driving down the road (about 200 yards from our house) l saw the snake, dead. It was only a little black snake but it might as well have been a Copperhead to my mother-in-law. I've lived here for about 8 years and its only the second snake I've seen.

Now my mother-in-laws' walk is now much shorter and a lot more circumspect.

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence.
