Dottie Posted June 8, 2011 Posted June 8, 2011 I hurt my back somewhat in an automobile accident several weeks ago, and it was almost all better... But Sunday evening, in an effort to get Sonny out of a room in which he was not supposed to be, I fell backward and landed on the flat part of my lower back. I am not in terrible pain, although I was frightened when it first happened. But it is difficult for me to sit down and get up. I'm sure this will also be better in a few days. I need everyone's prayers to deal with Sonny. He is on strong anti-seizure meds to keep his mood stabilized, but he can be very contrary. I need patience, and to remember that raising my voice, or even talking sternly to him will set him off. My husband's solution is to send him to respite. Actually, he would like him out of the house for good, although he doesn't use those words, he is saving money for "when he needs to be" in residential treatment. My outlook is that Jesus can make a difference, and Sonny does a lot of Bible study on his own. He is like a different person when he is off his meds. We need your prayers in our house. Quote

Administrators Gail Posted June 8, 2011 Administrators Posted June 8, 2011 Dottie, I admire you and will keep your situation in my prayer journal. How old is Sonny now? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Dottie Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 He is 10 1/2, and growing fast. He is on Genotropin, a recombinant HGH. He's grown over 4 inches in the last year, and is getting physically harder to handle. I guess that is what I am afraid about. Thank you for your prayers. I miss Denise; we used to chat a lot about Sonny. :( Quote

Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted June 13, 2011 Moderators Posted June 13, 2011 A boy who's 10 1/2 years old is too big for you to be able to physically pick him up and move him. --I even get a huge backache whenever I pick up my twin grandbabies, and they're only 16 months! I sympathize with you. Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Guest Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 I think I'm with your husband's thinking on this one Dottie. Quote
Dottie Posted June 14, 2011 Author Posted June 14, 2011 Jeannie - He is only 58 pounds, the first time his weight has been higher than his height, which is now 54 inches. I have only not been able to pick him up in the last year. But he is on Geodon, an anti-seizure med, which slows his brain down enough to think. If he is late getting meds, his ability to control himself lessens tremendously. And that's only part of life with a multi-diagnosis child. Quote
