Members abelisle Posted June 9, 2011 Members Posted June 9, 2011 Seems that "Big Brother" and "1984" is alive and well in our church. The 2 issues here are 1) LSU's teaching of evolution in regard to this specific professor and 2) possibly the inference that "dinosaur age" in the article was in disagreement with the official 6000 yr. old earth age belief? http://spectrummagazine.org/blog/2011/06...hurch-news-site Alex Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com

Members abelisle Posted June 10, 2011 Author Members Posted June 10, 2011 Who can tell? This is one incident that was detected. There might be other cases we will never know about. Sort of like when we sin, isn't it? I only fear that this is an indicator of top-down leadership telling its membership not only what the official belief system is but stifling any open-minded thinking also. Some pastors I've spoken with aren't happy with the new authoritarian leadership with its departmental purges, etc. We're looking at a paradigm shift in leadership that is only encouraging the conservative - liberal divide in the church rather than an effort to listen to each other and at least make attempts at peaceful coexistence rather than "if you don't believe as I do, why don't you leave?" approach. Brad Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I'd go more along the lines that the article was generally positive about the professor, and the university, and that at this point the GC doesn't want to be seen as saying or admitting anything positive about LSU. Quote
ClubV12 Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 It's quite possible they just want to limit exposure on the issues with LSU at this time regardless of the merits of the article, or any article emanating from that source. I can't say yay or nay on the wisdom of that. There is a reason corporations have a "PR" department and that is not a bad thing in this day and age of instant communication. PR folks are still just people, sometimes they get it right, sometimes they don't. Quote

Bradley got some high praise for that position over at the "big left tent" - but in the end his strategy in taking that idea to the press did not pay off the way he had at first hoped. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." I only fear that this is an indicator of top-down leadership telling its membership not only what the official belief system is but stifling any open-minded thinking also. The "big left tent" praised LSU's prof Bradley for his "open-minded thinking" as he admitted to the rogue agenda of the LSU biology department - so fully in keeping wtih Fritz Guy's own published agenda in the LSU relgion department. Apparently placing that spin on by-faith-alone belief in evolutionism did not work as the way the big-left-tent had planned. I for one prefer the article review that you find here http://www.educatetruth.com/news/adventist-news-network-highlights-evolutionary-biologist-at-lsu/ to the big left tent version. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." olger Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 A couple observations from olger: The church is already divided. Internally. The reason for indifference toward doctrine is that we have become mystics. We feel that as long as we have some religious experience and talk about "love" that we are indeed spiritual and an heir of the promise. The truth is that we are deluded. We forget that "he who practices righteousness is born of him" (1 John 2:29). We have no love of doctrine, study, or holiness. We just like hearing some quasi Calvinist notion of "letting go and letting Cod," talking about love and worshiping a self-constructed image of Jesus that does not compare to our Savior found in the scriptures. We are in a most delusive state. There is hope if we will repent, and turn from our perilous condition. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

ClubV12 Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Whew, so now the Adventist News Network is unreliable? Man, I can't keep up with which sites are what. I've been looking at a bunch of different ones. Some you can discern pretty quickly where it stands, others remain a mystery. The tough ones are the apparently "Adventist" based ones, they range from fringe to outright radical to neutral. I thought the ANN was a pretty good news source, well, beats Fox anyway. The web is a lot like Babylon, confusion reigns. Personally, I was blown away by the controversy over LSU, I had not the slightest concept that an SDA school could slip to such a low standard. It leaves me wondering about all of them, and many other things as it concerns the SDA leadership in general. Of course if I want to "hang my coat on the hook of apostasy of the GC and all that" there are plenty of web sites to support that idea! Best left alone for the time being,,, but I'm watching, wondering, learning. What DOES it all mean? Quote
