Principles for Bible Study... and Discussion

It's not meant to. Why should it?

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

(And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

You have to have at least some common ground to have a worthy debate.

For those who totally and completely deny God or the bible, I don't know how to have such a debate. Perhaps I will learn in time?

Dr, Rich's beliefs, for example, are SO far removed from mine I can find very little, if any, common ground on which to have a debate! For those that can, I salute you, but it's beyond me! :)

ClubV12, you would NOT have any debate IF you did what Jesus said to do and what Jesus prayed for in John 17. The only common denominator is the words of Jesus given to us by ONLY His eyewitnesses as is the test found in John 14:26 and 17:17-20.

Interestingly, the 144k will not be dabating with each other because they will all agree that the true gospel is the one Jesus gave to us. Jesus' gospel about the Kingdom of Heaven is simple, pure and true. Right now that small group is increasing as I write these words. If you want to be among the 144k, then you too must remove all of the lies from all others, repent and learn what Jesus taught and obey. It's your choice.

>>...debate.<<

"Debate"!? Forsooth! Ain not that like, verboten? bwink

It's been alleged that 'debate' kills the forum - yet for all the complaints about 'debating' re this forum - I notice that every time I look - the membership list is larger, and larger...

Help me out here: Did not Jesus Christ address even the unspoken thoughts of some? Ain not that like,

contentious? ...or is that like, debatable?

>>Mohammad, Nostradamas, Joseph Smith and Ellen White...<<

All prophesied with hits and misses - kinda like sinning; but of course, in its correctly used sense.

However, what I find notable in a distinguishing and practical sense is - that Nostradamas practiced a form of Homeopathy, which was often quite efficacious.

Some may find it interesting that Nostradamas scried with a bowl of wine set upon a tripod. Shades of the OT Joseph and the Oracle of Delphi... :(

Why make it a debate? Why does it have to be confrontational?

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

Whoa, a debate is confrontational? When did that happen? :)

OK. If you think that what takes place here is a debate, or supposed to be, why does it almost always become confrontational?

Or... How about we call it what you are doing right now - being argumentative.

Why do so many "discussions" have to become argumentative?

"Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good."

"Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal."

"I love God only as much as the person I love the least."

*Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth.

Why....indeed. Perhaps it is because playing on a level field would give no one the advantage.

We seem to be more inclined to go by this definition...

advantage

noun

a condition or circumstance that puts one in a favorable or superior position

rather than the 2nd part...

• the opportunity to gain something; benefit or profit

The following, if followed, would eliminate a lot of confusion!!

Principles of Bible Study

1. The Word of God is Jesus Christ, and the words of the Bible tell us about that Word. Therefore, when we study the words of the Bible we always look behind, in and through those words for God’s Word – Jesus Christ.

2. No Christian has a monopoly on understanding either God’s Word or the words of the Scripture. This includes biblical scholars and the most unlearned Christian. All of us must listen to one another as we seek to understand the richness of God’s gifts.

3. We must assume everyone has Christian integrity and not accuse one another of being unchristian, no matter how unusual are the opinions.

4. We must further assume that we will arrive at different understandings of portions of Scripture and that that will not disturb God as much as it does some of us.

5. Few of us will know Hebrew or Greek, and we therefore need to use a variety of English versions to try to understand the text.

6. While we accept our differences, we do not feel that those differences are unimportant, or that they should be ignored or treated as if they did not matter.

7. Different biblical understandings can remain among us, but we can still be warm Christian friends. In fact, as we grow to better understand our differences, we can grow in our appreciation of one another.

Huh? Didn't Jesus say that His words are the Words of the Father? Since that is just what Jesus did say, then why can't you say the same thing instead of changing Jesus' words into Paul's words?

And Jesus did NOT say that being a Christian, or even an Adventist, will save them from their failure to obey the words of God. Jesus talked about the "Kingdom of Heaven" and what it takes to get INTO this KOH as found in John 3 (all of it).

Yes, it is clear to me that the KOH right now is/are the Adventists, but just as Jesus said in Matthew 25:1-13 and in Rev. 2 and 3, they all are spiritually dead (asleep) except for the few found in Rev. 3:4. And repeating myself, all one has to do to be among those few is to get rid of the lies you now believe and keep all of the commandments and hold fast to the words (testimony) of Jesus Christ as found in Rev. 12:17. Why? Because ALL of them will not believe a lie or practice a lie as all of them will be completly blameless. (See Rev. 14:5)

"Present the Word of God, the Bible, before your heavenly Father, and say, ' Enlighten me, teach me what is truth.' And when His Holy Spirit shall come into your hearts, to impress the truth into your souls, you will not let it go easily. You have gained such an experience in searching the Scriptures that every point is established. And it is important that you continually search the Scriptures." F.W.56.

"The heart that has once tasted the love of Christ, cries out continually for a deeper draft, and as you impart you will receive in richer and more abundant measure. Every revelation of God to the soul increases the capacity to know and to love. The continual cry of the heart is, ' More of Thee,' and ever the Spirit's answer is, ' Much more.' Rom5:9,10." M.B.20.
