ClubV12 Posted June 16, 2011 Posted June 16, 2011 From Adventist Review: Sierra biology professor ________ was quoted as saying, “It’s very, very clear that what I’m skeptical of is the absolute necessity of believing that the only way a creator God could do things is by speaking them into existence a few thousand years ago.” He further noted, “That’s where my skepticism lies. That’s the religious philosophical basis for what I call the lunatic fringe.” I redacted the name of the Professor because to me it's about the "thought" not the man. How is it possible the SDA church can allow such Professors to be employed at one of our schools? Is their some kind of legal protection that prevents them from being terminated? Should they be terminated perhaps is more to the point? I don't feel comfortable knowing my tithe dollars support such a school. Is that wrong? I'm not looking to condem or cause trouble, I'm seriously concerned, as a member of the church, what all this means. Can it be justified in some way? As it concerns tithe: I will continue to pay my tithe, regardless. It is an offering to God, what the church does with it after the fact, is on their head. I'm not looking for an "excuse" to stop. Dottie Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 If I recall correctly, I read that there are some instructors and professors a our colleges, etc., that are not even members of the SDA Church. Quote
ClubV12 Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 Oh, well OK, I didn't realize that was the case. I can see that in some select specialty areas, especially at the Graduate level. With all due consideration to their abiding by an SDA church ethics and policy code, etc. But I suspect your talking about under graduate programs and core classes. If thats the case, it's a bit of head scratcher why they would be hired. Quote
ClubV12 Posted June 17, 2011 Author Posted June 17, 2011 ...boy the silence on THIS topic is deafening! Must be way more controversial than I suspected. Quote
Moderators Bravus Posted June 17, 2011 Moderators Posted June 17, 2011 In the current climate in the church, 'SDA universities' might be becoming oxymoronic... Quote Truth is important
