Toni Wood Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 Has anyone read this book? My son was at the General Conference Headquarters recently while on family vacation in D.C. He is acquainted with several officials there and asked one of them what he thought was the greatest problem facing the Church at this time. This official asked if he had read or heard of this book and strongly suggested he get it and read it. That was the only answer/comment that he offered my son in answer to his origianl question. Any other readers of it out there? Interested in opinions only-no nastiness please.. Quote

hch Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 As I see it, the Omega controversy is a rejection of the third angel's message. Quote His child Henry Bible student/Author https://www.loudcry101.com
olger Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 I know Rick personally, and have a copy of his book. He has a fascinating story, and a most apropos message to give. He is an humble individual. There is a revival going on in our world of which the emerging church and environmentalism is a part. It is a pagan revival. In certain quarters, the Adventist church has moved measurably towards this revival (pains me to admit that). g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Moderators Gerr Posted June 25, 2011 Moderators Posted June 25, 2011 I knew nothing about "spiritual formation", but I heard it condemned in AD TV. I just did a perfunctory internet search and what I found so far is that it merely refers to becomong like Jesus. Isn't that what we all want? Quote

Overaged Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Still interested in opinions of those that have read the book..Thank you Toni I have been an Adventist over 20 years, and have read several books dealing with this topic - The Omega Crises. They seem to have a fairly consistent warning against certain of "spiritual disciplines," which essentially lead away from God and His Word. Too much of this "formation" business, takes away from the "transformation" business of Romans 12:2 Rom 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. But I have not read the book you refer to. Quote "People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." Moderators lazarus Posted June 27, 2011 Moderators Posted June 27, 2011 I've been an SDA for many years and I think the greatest threat to our church is a problem of the opposite kind. We have made the traditions of men so powerful in the church that we assume conformity to tradition is spirituality. It was the same in Jesus' day. More spiritual disciplines please. More fasting, prayer, study, simplicity, solitude, service, submission, confession, worship, guidance and celebration. We are transformed by the renewing of our minds and how else are our minds renewed but through the spiritual disciplines. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein

But then we have the questions that arise thereof, such as what constitutes "legitimate" spiritual disciplines. LOL; perhaps Adventist "Hot Potato" number 321??? Moderators lazarus Posted June 28, 2011 Moderators Posted June 28, 2011 For some a mark of spirituality is an organ, hymns, the Methodist style worship service, ties, suits and hats. Church starts at 9:30am and ends at 12pm sharp. Quiet = Spiritual or Loud = carnal (or vice versa) Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Moderators lazarus Posted June 28, 2011 Moderators Posted June 28, 2011 But then we have the questions that arise thereof, such as what constitutes "legitimate" spiritual disciplines. To me it is those of which the Bible speaks. Let us not be afraid of being called apostates because others have perverted what God has blessed us with. Overaged Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Ever since I joined the Church someone has called me something. So I don't let that stop me! I never know from year to year what it will be next! "Apostate" certainly is a favorite. (not mine!) But maybe you could mention an example or two from the Bible of how you understand a "spiritual discipline?"
