Who are the 11th hour workers?

Quote:
[EG White]The Jews had been first called into the Lord's vineyard, and because of this they were proud and self-righteous. Their long years of service they regarded as entitling them to receive a larger reward than others. Nothing was more exasperating to them than an intimation that the Gentiles were to be admitted to equal privileges with themselves in the things of God. {COL 400.2}

The Jewish church failed, and God called out the apostolic church to do His bidding. The Roman Church failed, and out of it God called the churches of the Reformation. Some of these churches failed to advance, and God called out others to bear His gospel to the world such as the Baptist, Methodist, Congregationalist, Disciple, Adventists. His last 'called-out' people will know no standard but His word, no power but His Spirit.” [First Quarter

Sabbath School, Lesson X, March 7, 1896]

What lesson can we learn from this today? And what is it telling us?

Hello Peter,

According to the Sabbath School Lesson, if we know "no standard but His word [and] no power but His Spirit," we shall be among those "eleventh-hour workers." If we fail, by erecting some OTHER "standard" besides the Word of God and by employing some OTHER "power" than God's Spirit, then we have no hope of being among those "11th hour workers."

Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup.

If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony.

Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Rudy,

Are you a graveyard shift worker? You seemed to miss that I was not the one who asked, "Who are the 11th hour workers?"

I forgive you, but if you are going to be a comedian, I suggest you be a good one. :)

This parable was forever to quench the eager, grasping, mercenary spirit which is so offensive to God. Those who possessed this spirit were revealing their own unworthiness of having their wages increased, or to have the highest place. The complaint was: "These last have wrought but one hour; and thou hast made them equal unto us, which have borne the burden and heat of the day."

Have he seen or hear this kind of action today? Interesting.

Interesting quotes Brother Peter, the first one I can see is from EGW, but the second one? Not sure who said those words! Have any ideas? Is it also EGW?

Yes it is sad how God's people have this entitlement complex. Just as the Hebrews didn't always understand what was required of them, we do the same today.

The 11th hour workers will be those who have made it their lifebusiness to trust in the merits of Jesus Christ and in the merits of Jesus Christ alone for their acceptance with God. They will be clothed with the glistening vesture of Christ's righteousness, filled with the grace of His Holy Spirit. They will be actuated by the Head and be enabled to do the works of omnipotence. The church and the world will be captivated by such men and women, captivated by the glory of an abiding Christ. The divine fullness will flow through the consecrated human agents to be given forth to others. And in currents of praise and thanksgiving from the many souls thus won to God, glory will flow back to the great Giver.

This quote was taken from the Sabbath school lesson that was approve by the GC of the SDAC when it was published in March 7, 1896. It was taken form the archives of the SDAC. You can find the link below and the note on page 35 at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for you interest as to where it is from.

Well, if I'm not greatly mistaken, that Ellen White quote is taken from the chapter about the parable of the vineyard. If the Jewish church was the first one called in, then that would make them the early morning workers, which would mean...

Early Morning: Jewish Church

Third Hour: Apostlic / Roman Church

Sixth Hour: Reformation Churches

Ninth Hour: Seventh-day Adventist Church

Eleventh Hour: "His last 'called-out' people [who] will know no standard but His Word, no power but His Spirit."

I LIKE IT

All progress in the Spiritual Life is knowing and Loving GOD

"there is non upon earth that I desire besides YOU" PS 73:25

That perspective changes EVERYTHING-suffering and adversity are the means that makes us hungry for GOD. Disapointments will wean us away wordly occupations. Even sin(when repented of) becomes a mechanism to push us closer to HIM as we experience His Love and Forgiveness.

I like it too. I've always understood the 11th hour workers to be the ones who come in at the last minute and carry the ball we have let fall for so many years.

I can see how some SDAs would also be of the "'called-out' people", called out of our laodicean state.

Knowing that it will be mostly those "called out" of the fallen churches who are sealed and give the message, why is it so hard to shake off this "stupidity" and wake up? Not to "right doctrines" and "right living", but to a sense of the love and respect God has for each of His creatures, which, when appreciated and accepted, would lead us to the right doctrines and living-in the right spirit.

I thought it would be those upon whom the latter rain falls, to do the finishing up harvesting

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Yes, just as the disciples of Christ at Pentecost were filled with the Spirit and they went to the lost sheep of Israel before they were forced to turn to the Gentiles.

Those who proclaim the latter rain message will first seek for the lost sheep of modern Israel and they will be fitted to give the loud cry to the world.

We must know what that message is and we must receive it, believe it, and act upon it before the message goes to the world.

Those who receive the latter rain message (1888 message) and are transformed by it will be fitted to give the loud cry to the world.
