For me, the turning point during the trial was the lack of DNA and specific information on the duct tape over the poor childs mouth and nose. That duct tape contained NO DNA from the mother. From that I was forced to conclude it could not be proved, beyond a reasonable doubt, that the mother placed that tape. The only logical conclusion therefore was the possibility that the mother was not entirely guilty. As the crime was subject to the death penalty, there was no room for a "maybe" or even the "weight of evidence". The issue had to be held to the highest standard of "reasonable doubt". In that regard, I agree with the jury, reasonable doubt of her guilt remained. Quote

Dottie Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 The jurors, I think, from the interviews that I have heard, were upset that they couldn't bring another verdict, but felt they had no other choice. The prosecution had not proven its case. Miss Anthony will be out on Sunday, and local law enforcement is providing no security because the threats that they have received are not credible. Also, the District Attorney's Office is planning to file suit for the extra work that was involved in running around after false leads given by the accused. Don't know how they plan on collecting. Aparently she will have no steady source of income. Quote

I suspect the drowning of the child in the pool is a likely contender. But it's difficult to understand who and why someone, possibly her Father, would help move the body and make it appear to be a murder? It remains a mystery. Quote

In both cases the court has ruled not guilty, as a society we have to accept that at face value. Not just as christians, but as society! The "judging time" is over, we have to move on from it and accept a person back into society, or church. However the victims still have a right to pursue, in civil court, "justice" of some kind. Society still has a right to recover expenses as well. We can and should accept those who were found not guilty at face value. IF, at some point, they loose a civil suit, we should expect they will do the best they can to settle that matter as well. In this we honor both the law of God and the law of Government. Quote

Moderators Bravus Posted July 13, 2011 Moderators Posted July 13, 2011 IANAL, but I think the verdict was right in a criminal court where the standard is 'beyond reasonable doubt'. The evidence was just not present to make a decision to that standard. It might be interesting to see it tried in a civil court where the standard is 'on the balance of probabilities': I think the prosecution did make that case in this trial. Quote Truth is important

The jury determined the father was not a reliable witness, that may well carry over in a civil case. If it was the mother, that would potentially put her at odds with her husband. Perhaps other relatives could bring suit? The State is a given, based on her conviction of lieing, they have a clear case to sue for compensation for the investigation. I don't know who, besides immediate family, would have the legal right to bring a civil case though? Quote

I don't think anyone woke up one morning and thought: "I'm going to kill this little brat." Here are my issues with this: 1. Why the addiction to this case? There are plenty of others where the child's killer is known, and the child extremely violently. We have black teenage "flash mobs" stealing and killing in various parts of the country and no one is saying much about that. Where's the outrage? 2. What law has been passed during this diversion that takes even more of our freedoms away? There's a reason that this case received so much media attention. On any given day, there are probably at least 50 women across the country killing their kids, yet Case gets the attention. My $.02 Quote
nuff sed Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 I live just outside Orlando, Florida where the trial was held and saw so much of Casey Anthony pushed into my face by the media that I refused to watch the trial. Like it or not you have to face the fact that if it was not determined how Caylee died how could someone "prove beyond a shadow of a doubt" who killed her or even if 'somebody' did? The jury rendered the verdict that they did based on the facts that they were given. I am a Chaplain for the Orange County Sheriff's Office. When I went to the office last week there were all the TV reporters interviewing Sheriff Demings as he sought to dodge disapproval in the way the police handled the case. I would hope that Casey Anthony moves to North Dakota so we don't have to continually be in the media circus which will go on for a long time after she is released. Nuff sed Quote

Consequences not only in this life, but the life to come. Some had many stars in their crown, others only a few. All were perfectly happy with their crowns. The "consequences" of a life led on earth remain for eternity. Quote
