Dr. Shane Posted July 18, 2011 Author Posted July 18, 2011 Well, it is about $90. She can only earn $2/day. I told her if she wants to buy it, I will match her half-way. I have done that before on some big items my son has wanted. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity
Dottie Posted July 20, 2011 Posted July 20, 2011 Do you really want her practicing that? I hope that the diaper needs changing every time the doll feeds. All of the "fun" and none of the unpleasantness? It would be better to give her a chance to be a mommy's helper to see what it's really like, and not fantasize about how it is. Wanting a baby to love them gets a lot of girls something they don't really want--a lot of responsibility. (all said with caring, by a former foster mom) Quote
Dr. Shane Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Do I want my daughter practicing how to feed a baby? I think little girls have been doing that for ages. I'm a guy so I was always into Legos, Lincoln Logs and toy tractors. I think it is perfectly normal for little girls to want to play with dolls and pretend to be their mommy. Neither I nor any of my friends were EVER interested in practicing how to breast feed a baby when we were children. It never even occurred to us! So....we want our little girls to know how to breast feed a baby? How about going the whole mile and let them practice how to have a baby? There is something rather alarming about this toy. What about boys? Lots of boys play with dolls. Will they not be confused about breast feeding a baby? And then there are the guys who will hoot and make fun of girls who have such a doll and belittle the whole idea of breastfeeding. IMHO, it's a stupid toy. And certainly not worth the cost!!! Dr. Shane Posted July 20, 2011 Author Posted July 20, 2011 Neither I nor any of my friends were EVER interested in practicing how to breast feed a baby when we were children. It never even occurred to us! Did you ever have a doll with a bottle that had disappearing milk when you tipped the bottle up? I would rather have my girl pretend to feed her baby doll the natural way than with artificial milk manufactured by corporate America. Perhaps the reason my daughter wants such a doll is because natural feeding is so common today. She sees her aunts feeding her cousins that way and the mothers at church feeding their children that way. The doll does seem a bit expensive to me but I have spent more on a Lego set for my son. Actually, I have spent more on a few toys and the deal I normally make is that the kids have to save up half of the money. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... M. T. Cross Posted July 21, 2011 Posted July 21, 2011 Both my wife and myself think this is a fantastic toy and if our youngest daughter were a little bit older we would be getting it for her in a heart beat. Quote
