Aussiemike Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 God's Old Covenant Israel 1. Israel called from caanan to go and live in Egypt 2. God calls Israel his first born son out of Egypt. (Hosea 11:1) 3. Israel is baptised in the red sea. (1 Corinth 10:2) 4. They spend 40 years in the wilderness 5. At the end of the 40 years moses gives his farewell address. This speech is recorded and is known as the book of Deuteronomy. 6. The 12 tribes enter caanan. God's intention was they be the light of the world. Jesus himself is God's New Covenant Israel 1. Jesus called out of Israel go to Egypt 2. Jesus the son of God called out of Egypt. (Matt 2:15. quotes Hosea 11:1 and applies it to Jesus.) 3. Jesus is baptised in the Jordan river 4. He spends 40 days in the wilderness 5. At the end of the 40 days he is tempted by Satan and defeats him by quoting from the book of Deuteronomy 3 times. 6. The 12 apostles represent Christ and to be the light of the world. Galatians 3:16 “Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one. “And to your seed,” who is Christ." Paul is saying that the promises given to Abraham are in fact given to Jesus. So what once originally applied to Israel in the Old Covenant now applies to Jesus in the New Covenant. Galatians 3:29 “And if you are Christ's then you are Abrahams seed, and heirs according to the promise.” New Covenant Israel, the seed of Abraham are not the nation of ethnic Israel but the disciples of Christ.
