(as well, in profane writings - 666/golden sun) And though ever bruiting the mark and the number – the name seems never to be considered in exposition or dialog – unless the title Pope is thought to be a name. The 666 would be nothing by itself. Remember that the Bible gives us many ways of identifying the little horn power and the first beast of Rev. 13. The 666 is only one. There are at least 11 clear identifiers. I believe God wants His people to know who this beast-power is. He's not trying to trick or confuse people. But one of the reasons that God puts these things in symbols is that He is not going to force people into believing it. He honors your freedom to choose whether to believe or not. He always leaves people room to wiggle out. People will know if they want to. The only way to miss it is if people don't want to see it. I'm not denying that it also is the number referring to the papal system. But it is pointing out the worship of created things in contrast to true worship of the Creator. Something interesting that I noticed just the other day in this connection is that the amount of gold that Solomon received came to 666 talents. (A talent is 75 lbs.) 1 Kings 10:14 Now the weight of gold that came to Solomon in one year was six hundred threescore and six talents of gold, Solomon got off course because of his gathering of wealth, which God warned His people not to do. Deut. 17:17 Neither shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold. The more fully we accept the light presented by the Holy Spirit through the consecrated servants of God, the deeper and surer, even as the eternal throne, will appear the truths of ancient prophecy; we shall be assured that men of God spake as they were moved upon by the Holy Ghost. Men must themselves be under the influence of the Holy Spirit in order to understand the Spirit's utterances through the prophets. These messages were given, not for those that uttered the prophecies, but for us who are living amid the scenes of their fulfillment. I completely agree. The only ones who will really understand the end-time prophecies are those who are guided into the truth by the same Spirit that inspired the prophets to write the prophecies in the first place. The only ones who will really understand the end-time prophecies are those who are guided into the truth by the same Spirit that inspired the prophets to write the prophecies in the first place.
