Inspiration and Infanticide

Ok Joshua is one of the books in the Bible I have real problems reading. Mainly because (along with some of the other history books) the record of wiping out whole nations including children.

I also have issue trying to understand the poetic nature of David "wanting to dash his enemies babies against the wall"!

The she-bear killing those kids because they called Elisha a baldie?

And did all the firstborn Egyptian boys die just because one man Pharoah was a stubborn ignoramus?

I am willing to admit that I have no asnwer for these questions, but am I the only one to struggle with a loving God allowing kids to die in these circumstances?

We in the West are individualistic.

Try living in a society where the fundamental unit is the family, rather than the individual. In that society all family members suffer for the sins of one, and all are respected for the accomplishments of the one.
