Apparently it has become an epidemic among us...or has it always been what American Christianity is all about?

Given this mindset I can easily see why it will be America that sets up the "image to the beast".

And why too many of us will leave the church since it suits our character. (Please note the "us/our". I struggle in this area.)

For fun last night I commented on Facebook to a lady (I think she owns McBeth Corp or something but I met her through work) who mentioned the Sabbath commandment.

I asked why the calendar marks Saturday as the 7th day.

Upon reflection, I went back and thought to make amends, just in case I had offended her and/or her circle of non-SDA friends. I do want to stand up for God's law and I do want to inform others, but I would like to make sure I do it winsomely.

So I expounded on the blessing that God put there, in that day (blessed and sanctified it the Bible says), and that He didn't rest because He was tired, but that He just sat back and enjoyed the work of His hand. I also made a connection to the Creation/Evolution debate and stated that I have a hunch that the Sabbath will come out of all that sometime in the future.

It worked- got positive response and I wasn't de-friended!

I have no idea whose job it is to weed out heretics. All I know is that I'm not very good at it.

Two thoughts on this--

Yes, it has been my experience to all too frequently be on the receiving end of that harsh and chilling effect from fundamentalists, hell-bent on purging heresy from amongst us. The chill is in the air around here far too often these days.

And maybe what we are seeing in America, the land of religious freedom, is a drift toward the prophetic transition from being lamb-like to beastly. Think about the markings (characteristics) that identify the true nature of that impostor of Revelation.

Love is not rude. I think that's all there is to it. Sure, there's a need for discipline. There's a need for correction. Yet, a lot of times it's done in a very rude way.

There's a huge difference when someone cleans you off with a soft towel, as opposed to using sandpaper.

I agree with both you and Tom.

I had a cartoon I had cut off and put on my wall of one porcupine saying to another, "Just once I'd like to be petted". Boy could I identify! I realized I repelled people, but I couldn't quite reason from cause to effect, then I couldn't quite figure out how I erred, meaning how was I wrong. I wasn't necessarily wrong but the approach was. But that transition period can be so long, as I slip in and out of hypocrisy.

Don't know if anyone understood what I meant to say with that last sentence.

Well, teresaq, when you think about it, we are all there, just trying to figure it all out. It's just that sometimes we think it's a done deal when we find out in hindsight that it's not.

If the wheat leaves the tares alone, they will continue to grow together.

On the other hand, if the tares crowd out the wheat, so much so that the wheat is about to perish, the Master Gardener will have to do something soon or the harvest will be ruined.

There is a type of gardening where the seeds are not planted in rows but in a square patch. The reasoning is that the patch is so thick that weeds can't get a foothold.
