We have to raise taxes as they are so low at current rates we cannot afford the government we have. The issue isn't "if" but "when". We need to get the economy growing at a healthy pace before we increase taxes.

Our spending problem is caused by 1. the Baby Boom Generation retiring and adding more to the Social Security roles faster than the previous generation is dying off.

How can we fix that?

1) Change the retirement age for Baby Boomers

2) Make Social Security means tested

3) Kill off the previous generation

None of those are good options.

2. Defense Spending

How do we fix that?

1) Pull our troops out of Europe, Japan, Philippians and other foreign nations.

2) End the wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya

3) Transform our peace-time military into 20% active-duty forces and 80% reserve forces.

We cannot fix our spending problem without addressing those two areas.

There is a lot of spending we can cut. I don't want to take the position that the government has no where to cut. My point is that cutting isn't going to be enough. We are going to have to repeal the Bush tax cuts at some point or do something else drastic.
