Dante, I answered your question in the Shout Box, but it may scroll off before you see it - so here is a copy and paste:

Quote:
[x] LynnDel: I think I Love Lucy is bad, so I guess I'm not the one to ask! Kind of kidding, but part of the answer may deal with how much time you use at the activity, whether it's I Love Lucy or Call of Duty Zombies. Just thinking out loud (well, sort of)

[x] LynnDel: (OK, so I'm stuck in some time warp)

Someone else likely has a better answer. I can't answer specifically because I haven't seen Call of Duty Zombies. OK, I'll admit it: I couldn't pick an Xbox out of a lineup. :(

As a parent, I wish I could go back in time and re-do the whole idea of bringing an Xbox into our house. It was hard at first, setting time limits and getting him to do chores and school work. However, it is getting better.

As far as content is concerned, that is another personal choice. Whether it be fighting people, the undead, or an army of kittens.

We have a wii. I don't like war games where we simulate killing people and being at war. I have told my children that they cvan have hunting games but not war games.

Our children have to earn gaming, internet and secular TV privileges. I printed out vouchers and they can earn vouchers by doing their homework, practicing musical instruments and/or doing chores around the home. Some chores allow them to also earn $2/day. This seems to have worked out well in our home. They can watch Christian TV channels like KTV or Smile of A Child without having to use a voucher.

I have been very impressed with Rock Band 3. Of course, not all the songs are edifying but the game requires one to play musical instruments the same way real instruments are played so it is helpful in developing interest in music and basic skills.

Back when I was a gamer, my favorite type of game was simulated Motocross racing. Although I did do my share of killing and bloodshed and carnage in some of the violent games. I don't do any of it anymore.

I had to put it away. Man I was a BIG gamer, and have all the Call of Duty stuff, going back to computers, PS2, XBox, the whole nine yards. I've been a gamer since the '80's, when Zork was TEXT only, well before graphics came around. Doom? Oh yeah, I had 5 computers networked and friends would come over and we'd play for hours! One time the neighbors called the COPS on us!!! We were shouting back and forth about where the bad guys were and what weapon we needed someone to bring. Grenades, rockets, reinforcements. The cops thought we had REAL GUNS when I answered the door. They were quite relieved to find we were playing a computer game. The neighbors must have been freaked out.

Can't do it anymore, like a drug addict for me, I had to shut it down completely. Erase massive files on my computer, toss out many CD/DVD's. Every once in awhile I STILL feel the draw, the addiction, I'm telling ya man, it's like a drug. I DREAM about it, STILL! I'll see something on the web and it will trigger a "flash back", I feel the adrenalin starting to pump, I want to get out the games. I cannot, I don't dare, I have to move on, it's getting easier. My son was the first one to identify that I had a problem, he told me flat out, I need to stop. One version of Call of Duty had attack dogs you had to shoot, or they would kill you. It was them or me, my son refused to play that version and thought I was sick for killing the dogs. He was right,,, ya know.

Call of Duty was the toughest, meeting the old gang, doing a group play, whew. We used a head set and microphone so we could coordinate our attacks on the enemy, often real other players online. I had to put down the gun and let it go... Maybe others can find an acceptable balance, I couldn't.

Soldier of Fortune was the most graphic one I had. Quake III was pretty graphic.
