teresaq Posted August 16, 2011 Posted August 16, 2011 My client watches the news at 5:00 every day, normally, so while I'm not much for the news myself I can't help but catch bits and pieces. An interesting piece just now on KCRA, It Pays To Be Rude. A study found that men and women who were rude tended to be paid higher than their more decent co-workers. I assume KCRA is the same across the country, but that is based on ignorance. Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 16, 2011 Administrators Posted August 16, 2011 I heard the same on news radio here too. I suspect it has something to do with being more aggressive and assertive in the workplace and less about just being nasty to everyone. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
teresaq Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 I don't know. According to the news when the study contacted the employers with their findings the employers said they didn't realize they were rewarding obnoxious behavior. Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
Neil D Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 I wonder where this piece of information comes from......If it was a study, what the study said......Some how, it's strikes me as strange....Rude people being rewarded for thier rude behavior....not only is that not good, but unfair to my way of thinking.... Guest Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 No wonder I keep getting raises at work! LOL Quote
teresaq Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 My experience is that it happens because some bosses are a bit on the ignorant-dictionary meaning- side, because they encourage that behavior, or feel stuck, meaning they feel they have to take what they can get. The ignorant ones either come from dysfunctional homes and think that is normal regardless of how they feel about it... or The abusers are so good at their game. Abusers hide what they are doing. They talk and doubletalk, talk behind people's backs...I'll have to find an article that describes it better than I can... Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
teresaq Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 There is a particular "game" I have been watching the last few days of one such "employee". 'Course now that I have "named it" it may "disappear" for a bit, only to reappear later when "all is forgotten". Basically it is designed to make certain ones think there is an honest effort at_______. It is all a game with the "employee" determined to do just exactly what s/he wants to do. When "caught" I have witnessed a variety of strategy's that all seem to work, making me wonder about the "boss".... Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
Moderators LynnDel Posted September 3, 2011 Moderators Posted September 3, 2011 There are enough non-assertive polite people, the kind who will appease in order to avoid controversy, to make rudeness a successful way of achieving one's goals in life. I don't plan to test the theory. Quote LD
teresaq Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Tain't a theory...I see it. Thank God, the experiences have been few...but deeply engraved. Hmmm, I didn't mean you... You come across as quite enjoyable to be around with some quite intelligent thoughts worth listening to...in my opinion anyway. Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
Moderators LynnDel Posted September 3, 2011 Moderators Posted September 3, 2011 Oh, I believe it is absolutely true in many many instances. Calling it a theory doesn't mean I doubted the phenomenon. I think my trouble is that my mother trained all the rudeness out of me, so that if I even tried to be rude, I wouldn't do it right, would not get away with it, and certainly wouldn't be rewarded for it. So I'm not even going to try! LD Quote LD
