Members abelisle Posted August 23, 2011 Members Posted August 23, 2011 WOW - I was scared when I felt the tremors in my 16th floor apt. in NYC. How about any of you? Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
Members phkrause Posted August 23, 2011 Members Posted August 23, 2011 Sorry I missed it. Do I hear footsteps? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators John317 Posted August 23, 2011 Moderators Posted August 23, 2011 They say it was a 5.9 and centered in Virginia. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Members abelisle Posted August 23, 2011 Author Members Posted August 23, 2011 Right now, I'm concerned about possible aftershocks. How many and how severe will they be? Quote We are our worst enemy - sad but true. http://abelisle.blogspot.com
Moderators John317 Posted August 23, 2011 Moderators Posted August 23, 2011 After a 5.9, there isn't likely to be any big aftershocks. If it's a true aftershock, it will be less than the 5.9 quake you just experienced. You could get some that you will feel in the range of 4 to 5.5. But it is also likely that you will barely feel them. A 5.9 could be releasing pressure or it could be increasing it. I know that isn't much comfort, but it's the truth. Only time will tell which way it will go. Lots of little ones can be a sign of a big one coming. That's what happened in Japan. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted August 23, 2011 Administrators Posted August 23, 2011 It was unmistakeable here. You could hear and feel this building shaking. No damage. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
LifeHiscost Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Do I hear footsteps? That's my considered opinion. Many things seem to be happening in the United States, that we have been protected from for a long, long time. It seems some of us are learning salvation and security doesn't rest on capitalism or democracy, or even a republic. God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
GoLions Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Felt it here in Michigan....matter of fact I was sitting on the toilet, when I felt a movement. Quote
doug yowell Posted August 23, 2011 Posted August 23, 2011 Felt it here in Michigan....matter of fact I was sitting on the toilet, when I felt a movement. Perhaps that was a precursor of a Lions victory. Otherwise, too much information. Quote

Moderators Kevin H Posted August 24, 2011 Moderators Posted August 24, 2011 I did not feel anything but there were facebook posts of people in the area feeling it. I was at my brothers, and I did notice a very light flicker of both the tv and the computer screen over the same moments starting and stopping in unison and that was over the time of the quake. Was shocked to hear about it. Quote
Moderators lazarus Posted August 24, 2011 Moderators Posted August 24, 2011 I was in a Conference exec. meeting at the time. One of our Pastors was just coming to the end of a very good devotional presentation. At first we thought it was part of his appeal! Seriously, at first I thought it was road construction, then a building collapse, a bomb, then when the floor shifted we all realized what it was and left the building. We were about 40 miles from the epicenter. If that was a 5.9 I don't want to be in a 7! Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence. Einstein
Stan Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 those of us on the west coast use a 5.9 to stir our postum. Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com
Moderators lazarus Posted August 24, 2011 Moderators Posted August 24, 2011 Yeah I suppose all the fuss we're making on our side is a bit pathetic. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. Outta Here Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 Sounds terrifying. I'm glad to hear that you each are all right. It is not pathetic to talk about it. It's human nature. Sorry some here are poking fun. Quote

doug yowell Posted August 24, 2011 Posted August 24, 2011 In 1992 we here in So Cal.had a 7.3 at 5am followed by a 6.5 at 8am on the same Sunday morning. That got our attention. After years of 3-5's you don't really pay much attention to them. That 5.9 was just a gentle reminder of what's to come someday. Quote
