I’ve noticed over the years that Republican candidates, especially those running for President or Vice-President, are held to a much higher standard than Democrats are.

Former Vice-President Dan Quayle was crucified in the press for misspelling the word ‘potato’ while the same press made former President Bill Clinton look like veritable saint after having adulterous sex in the oval office with Monica Lewinski. Former Vice-President Dick Cheney is drawn and quartered by the media for an honest hunting accident and President Barack Obama is protected by the same media, even though he has been involved in numerous misstatements about the number of states in the our union (57 v. 50), the age of his daughters, and the claim that the Kansas tornadoes killed 10,000 people: “In case you missed it, this week, there was a tragedy in Kansas. Ten thousand people died — an entire town destroyed.” The death toll, still tragic, was 12.

Now even fellow Republicans are trying to find enough dirt on each other to thwart opposing campaigns while they ignore the imposter in Washington. Robert Morrow, a support of Ron Paul has taken out ads in the Austin Chronicle asking if anyone has had sex with Rick Perry, while Obama tramples on the US Constitution and refuses to uphold federal immigration laws.

I believe there are two reasons for the double standards. First is due to the media being as equally corrupt and immoral as many of the liberal Democrats they support and defend. Secondly, Republicans tend to be more religious and moral than Democrats and therefore their transgressions are not as flagrant as those of others.

As the 2012 elections are just starting to heat up, it will be interesting to see just how biased the media will be and to what level some will stoop.

I think Giacomo nailed it!

Yeah, he sure did.

Those are the kinds of things that made me stop registering as a Democrat. The hypocrasy of people supporting Bill Clinton was too much for me to stomach, at the same time they were bad-mouthing Quayle for mispelling a word. Then they have the audacity to ignore it when Obama makes far worse mistakes.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

If all you're going to do is throw your vote at somebody who you know can't win, then why bother to vote at all?

The fact that you believe both parties are the same shows that you have a very limited understanding of politics. Are there scoundrels on both sides? Of course. But the two ideologies are vastly different. Like night and day even.

Would you vote for someone who is for bigger government and higher taxes, or would you rather have smaller gov't and lower taxes. There is a HUGE difference between those two positions, and that is just ONE of the differences. The biggest problem with the Republican party is all the Rinos they have now. (Republican In Name Only) Too many calling themselves Republican, who are in NO WAY conservatives. That's why you have to really do your homework, to find out who believes what. George Bush was not a conservative, and did some stupid things because of it. But he was still 100 times better for the country than the Democrat alternative.

Throwing your vote in the trash can by voting for a hopeless cause, helps no one, and no thing. But what should I expect from someone who actually thinks the gov't is their friend. LOL

Bill Cohen either lived in a vastly different time, or he's a complete dumb-ass. Do you really think the gov't gives one whit about you? They care about your vote. That's ALL!! Do you really believe that obama giving illegal aliens amnesty is because he has compassion for them? He wants their vote, and that's how to get it. Plain and simple. Don't be so gullible pk.

I am assuming you don't vote? Many people don't if they feel that way. Many people respond that way when any critisim is leveled at democrats.

If a negative story concerns misconduct of republicans that viewpoint is not so readily apparant.

Like Ted Kennedy,a man completely devoid of morals or conscience.A republican reported to enjoying a "waitress sandwich" and a very suspicious death of a young woman would have been out.Almost all republicans resign when their immoral behaviour becomes known.

Kennedy's and those like him are given a pass as "there are good things they have done"

Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this.

Not true at all. I just mentioned that this is exactly what they are saying. That as of right now must independants are dissatisfied with both parties. And that 51% of voters would vote for a third party candidate this time around. The only problem that they see if a third party candidate did win, he'd have both parties against him. But maybe that's what we need, something to wake these idiots up, as to what the people really want.
