Democrats would encourage the idea since most likely a third party/independent candidate would only hurt the Republican nominee. At this point, the Republican party seems most divided and that division would fuel the motivation for a third party arising out of their ranks. Such a candidate is unlikely to draw supporters away from Obama.

Unless things change, a third-party candidate is Obama's best hope at getting re-elected. That is how Clinton was able to get elected. Clinton didn't get over 50% of the vote either time that he was elected. I suspect Democrats are doing all they can to encourage a third party candidate. The only ones I see possible are Trump and Paul. Paul has ran as a third party candidate in the past without much success and he is 76. I don't think Trump will run because he knows he won't win.

I think you're right. Obama's popularity rating is at its lowest point and doesn't give any sign of improving in the near future. I think Obama will be a one-term president, unless there's a miracle in the economy. Instead, he still blames Bush, "a run of bad luck," and the Republicans.

It is really his own fault though, because he doesn't come up with any good ideas for improving the economic conditions. They say the economy is the slowest and worst it's been since the Great Depression.

I was truly hoping he would turn out to be suprisingly good president, but apparently it is not to be.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

I figured that like all Presidents, once elected Obama would move to the center, compromise and get things done. Sadly he started out by giving the middle finger to all the Republicans, telling them that he won and elections have consequences. He has been much more partisan than Reagan, G.W.H. Bush, Clinton or G.W. Bush were. Now he is whining and crying that the Republicans are not working with him. Well what comes around goes around and Obama is now getting a taste of his own medicine while the nation suffers.

A third option would be nice.

A third party would be nice but it needs to start by getting state legislators elected, governors, congressmen and senators before getting into the White House. That is how the PAN party in Mexico came on the scene.

If an independent candidate is elected he or she will be undermined by both parties.

Actually on Fox today they mentioned a survey they did that said that over 50% said they would vote for a third party candidate.
