Administrators Gail Posted May 11, 2013 Administrators Posted May 11, 2013 I haven't reached that point in Josephus yet. I think the Caesar I'm reading about is Augustus... Getting close to the birth of Jesus and at that point the Herods were still friendly with the Caesars Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted May 12, 2013 Administrators Posted May 12, 2013 Has anyone seen that BBC special called, I, Claudius? It was one of the best I've seen that gave an idea of how debauched Rome became before it fell Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Administrators Gail Posted May 12, 2013 Administrators Posted May 12, 2013 I'm reading in Josephus that Tiberius made such an order after the affair of a woman named Fluvia who suffered fraud under a Jew living in Rome who took her gifts of gold and purple which were destined for the temple at Jerusalem and spent them. Interesting history! Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Administrators Gail Posted May 14, 2013 Administrators Posted May 14, 2013 It's interesting that in the days of the Herods, the High Priest position may not have been passed down from father to son but set up by Herod's whim.
