Moderators John317 Posted August 28, 2011 Moderators Posted August 28, 2011 Yes, an open mind to truth, but a closed mind to error, right? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted August 28, 2011 Moderators Posted August 28, 2011 Thank you, dgrimm. Glad to see you out and about today. Stan Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 The other question, is when should we close our minds? Quote If you receive benefit to being here please help out with expenses. https://www.paypal.me/clubadventist Administrator of a few websites like https://adventistdating.com

Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted August 29, 2011 Members Posted August 29, 2011 Ah...but an open mind does not mean you should believe everything someone tells you... Unfortunately, some do not investigate before accusations and finger pointing.. And remember, the more open one's mind is, the more will leak out... :) Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?

Moderators John317 Posted August 29, 2011 Moderators Posted August 29, 2011 Our minds should always be closed to sin and to what is false, and always open to truth and righteousness. So as soon as I know something is sinful, false, and wrong, I should close my mind to it. Should we be "open minded" to the Rastafari Movement and its teachings? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rastafari_movement What would you tell an "open minded" young person who considers this movement as the way to the truth? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Stan Posted August 29, 2011 Author Posted August 29, 2011 how can one become an Adventist, if they are not one without having an open mind? ClubV12 Posted August 29, 2011 Posted August 29, 2011 At some point, on some doctrines, I have to close my mind. Absolute beliefs, cannot be challenged. The Sabbath for instance, done deal... But your point is well taken Stan, especially as it applies to "new light". Which to me mostly means, old light with new understanding. Quote

Moderators John317 Posted August 29, 2011 Moderators Posted August 29, 2011 Exactly-- test everything by the Bible. But then some people will argue that you are not really open minded if you think everything has to agree with the Bible. You need to be open minded about the possibility that the Bible is in error, they say. I'm sure that sounds familiar. Administrators Gail Posted August 30, 2011 Administrators Posted August 30, 2011 and yet, the closed minded folks seem so gullible.. Interesting thought... My hubby says that a mind is like a parachute- it only works when it's open. I agree that there has got to be a personal standard beyond which one can't safely go. Where that line is, though, probably varies from person to person. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
teresaq Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 and yet, the closed minded folks seem so gullible.. I think that is more from self-righteousness...Thinking one's self is capable of discerning error from truth, or relying on other's understanding, without an utter reliance on the Lord. The closed-minded don't seem to be dealing with a full-deck, so to speak, many times. That probably is due to the relying on self/others to know "truth" other than the Lord. But we are all blind and deceived to our own lack til the good Lord opens our minds.... :) Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790
