Stan Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 Dorothy Ann Cover In 1921 Dorothy moved with her family to Los Angeles, and they lived in several Southern California communities. Moving out on her own at the young age of 15, Dorothy built her own home and married Joe Kelly in 1933, a marriage that lasted 8 years. In 1942 Dorothy married Bud Butler, who brought to this union two little boys from a previous marriage. Bud was a master cabinet and furniture builder, and together he and Dorothy built their new home in Seal Beach, living there for more than 40 years. During this time in her life, Dorothy and Bud enjoyed the ocean and went boating regularly. The name of their boat was the “Dottie B.” In the early 1980s, Bud and Dorothy adopted about a half dozen squirrel monkeys, keeping Dorothy busy preparing foods for their special diet, and providing a lot of entertainment for the neighbors - especially when one of them got out to run around the neighborhood. One of these monkeys, George was his name, was extra special to Bud and Dorothy. When Bud passed away, Dorothy donated George to the Wildlife WayStation in North San Fernando Valley. Not long after Bud died, Dorothy became active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church. All her life she had worshipped God and grew closer to Jesus Christ, and was always witnessing for the Lord to her family and friends, both by verbal testimony as well as by her lifestyle. Soon after Bud passed away, Dorothy moved back to the beach, where she met and fell in love with Jack Cover. They were married in 1986. Dorothy and Jack enjoyed nearly ten years together before he passed away in 1996. In September 2004, Dorothy moved to Tehachapi, with her brother, Dal and his wife, Ann Calais, to finally retire; and she lived here until her passing. During her lifetime, Dorothy’s many talents involved being an accomplished seamstress, an accomplished painter and sculptor, and an accomplished cook. Dorothy was preceded in death by husbands, Bud and Jack; sons, Kenny and Gary; and one brother, Bud. She is survived by her daughters-in-law; her brother, Dal and his wife, Ann; and five grandchildren. Funeral services for Dorothy Ann Cover will be held Monday, Aug. 29, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tehachapi. Burial will follow at Inglewood Park Cemetery, in the Los Angeles area. Wood Family Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
