Moderators lazarus Posted September 5, 2011 Moderators Posted September 5, 2011 That is the power and the story of the painting: Four men were accompanying Bridges to school, yes, but the point was, the United States of America was accompanying her. We see the men's "Deputy U.S. Marshal" armbands, and that is what matters. The painting tells us: This country may have its flaws, but when right and wrong are on the line, the nation, in the end, usually chooses to stand for right. http://www.cnn.com/2011/OPINION/09/04/greene.rockwell.painting/index.html?&hpt=hp_c2 A powerful image for a President to see, whoever he or she is. doug yowell Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 I'm with the White House on this one but still find it inconsistent with these same stated principles to return the portrait of Winston Churchill whose leadership modeled how a President should respond to the violations of right. Quote
Moderators lazarus Posted September 5, 2011 Author Moderators Posted September 5, 2011 You mean the bust of Churchill, right? Apparently, in it's place was put a bust of Abraham Lincoln. It is fitting that an American president should replace an image of a British Prime Minister with the image of an American President who I think some Americans believe had some significant achievements. The bust hasn't gone far, just down the street to the British Embassy I've heard. It was due to be returned in Jan 2009 anyway.
