Administrators Gail Posted September 6, 2011 Administrators Posted September 6, 2011 What did/do you tell your children about Santa Claus? Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.
Members phkrause Posted September 6, 2011 Members Posted September 6, 2011 Definitely not that he's a real person. I would tell them the truth. As I have done with my daughter and will do with my grandson. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Dottie Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 I always told Sonny that Santa was not real, and that was okay until he started school. There he learned the Santa IS real, and nothing I can tell him seems to make a difference. Maybe this year, he'll realize that government school does not always tell the truth! Quote

M. T. Cross Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 My parents told me that Santa was just a make believe story that was really nice. I thought they were lying because my friend Adrians older brother had seen him come down the chimney so he must be real. Quote
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted September 7, 2011 Administrators Posted September 7, 2011 We never really did anything to make them think he was real. Santa was just someone in a costume. Since they were quite used to having stories about fictional characters, it wasn't so difficult to accept Santa as just part of the fun. They used to like to dress up in costumes themselves and play act. Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted September 7, 2011 Moderators Posted September 7, 2011 What did/do you tell your children about Santa Claus? It's amazing. We always told our kids that Santa was a nice fictional character. But now that they're all grown, with spouses who believe the kids should be told Santa is REAL -- now my kids are all going along with that gag. So I just keep my mouth shut when I hear them spinning the fairy tale about Santa's eating the cookies and milk on Christmas Eve, etc. I'm not sure how old the grandkids will have to be before their parents let them in on the truth. Liz Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 We always pretended that Santa and the elves were real. When my son was around six he figured it out and talked it over with his Dad, that he knew Santa wasn't real but that he and his dad shouldn't ruin the fun for his little sister and especially me. He really thought I believed in Santa and those elves. LOL I had to have "the talk" with my daughter around age nine or ten, that was when we realized she doesn't understand abstract thinking. I would have done things differently with her had we known then how her brain works. Now Santa and the elves still show up, and it has turned into a game of doing fun, unexpected or ornery things to each other and blaming the elves. But now everybody's in on it. Dottie Posted September 8, 2011 Posted September 8, 2011 One Christmas time, when my older offspring were children, we traveled from Jersey to Florida to visit my parents. Now, you have to understand that my dad always went to bed early, so no one was surprised on Christmas Eve, when he went to bed. A little while later, there was a knock at the front door. My mom answered the door, and yelled for the children to come. They couldn't believe that Santa was actually visiting them. They had a hard time what they thought was the truth, with what they saw at the door. Hubby and I weren't in on the joke. Everybody had a good time, and the children were okay with it after an explanation. Dad had played Santa at a church party, so had the costume. What it was hard for me to eout, was how he got out the window of his bedroom. They were the crank type windows, with no room to climb out. He had previously removed the screen from his bathroom window, and climbed out there, which was a very small single-hung window. We all had fun, but I think he had the most fun of all. Quote
