Matthew 24:29:

Quote:
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Also Luke 21:25-27

Are we there yet, with all the recent tornadoes and hurricanes and tsunamis?

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

History records, I forget the date, 1700's or early 1800's I think, the day was dark. Like, super naturally dark, DEEPLY dark, without any reasonalbe explanation. Chickens went to roost, moon couldn't be seen, like midnight.

History also records a huge meteor shower event, again I forget the date. But it was quite profound like nothing seen before or since.

But I've heard rumors that folks USED to think those were significant events but they are dismissed as "no big deal" by "modern, more educated" folks. Might be the same bunch that says the flood didn't happen either. :) I don't know how these rumors get started. Or in this case, what it all means, just something I haven't personally studied one way or the other.

Many of us are familiar with the Dark Day and the red moon and the Great Earthquake. But until now(?) no one has explained the "powers of the heavens shall be shaken" part.

With the recent storms the U.S. has been having, I'm beginning to wonder. Revelation 6:14 describes it as the heavens rolling like a scroll

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

God speaks in simple ways for his people - He's not reliant on physicists or high tech. Storms & calamities are understood by all nations at all levels.

There were strange signs in the sky before the Destruction of Jerusalem. Things are unsettled.

Wait,,, "Great Earthquake"? There's been a few big ones, you must be referring to one that was really, really big.

Heavens rolling like a scroll,,, uh,,, that don't sound good, that would get the worlds attention whatever it is.

Nov. 13, 1833.

I have an old journal written by a famous American who was traveling across the West in 1833. He writes in this journal that the Indians he met were terrified because of the meteor shower that took place on November 13. This was clear over in the Dakotas.

See GC 333, 334 for Ellen White's comments on this event.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Yeah, that's sometimes called the Lisbon Earthquake, 1775, one of the biggest in history, and it occurred at a time and place that got the attention of Bible scholars. It was right after the end of the papal persecutions, close to the "time of the end," 1798, and exactly at the time the earth-beast was rising onto the world scene. GC 304, 305.

"The powers of heaven are the sun, moon, and stars. They rule in the heavens. The powers of the earth are those that rule on the earth. The powers of heaven will be skaken at the voice of God. Then the sun, moon, and stars will be moved out of their places. They will not be pass away, but be shaken by the voice of God.

Dark, heavy clouds came up and clashed against each other. The atmosphere parted and rolled back: then we could look up through the open space in Orion, whence came the voice of God. The Holy City will come down through that open space. I saw that events come in order. War, and rumours of war, sword, famine, and pestilence are first to shake the powers of earth, then the voice of God will shake the sun, moon, and stars, and this earth also." Early Writings, 41.

If I understand the above correctly, the powers of earth will be skaken before the close of probation and the powers of heaven after the close of probation before Christ appears in the clouds of heaven.

Notice that the verse says immediately after

Galatians 3:29

(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

The "tribulation" mentioned here is before 1798. Everything in that statement was fulfilled as predicted except for the powers of heaven to be shaken. That is still in the future.

For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. Matt 24:21

Quote:
and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: Dan 12:1

1798 was worse than the 'time of trouble'. I'm glad I didn't live back in those days.

The time of trouble coming for the Saints, just before Jesus comes, is their Gethsemane moment. More trying and terrible than anything any man has ever faced on earth.
