British School Bans Makeup and Mirrors to Combat Vanity

Teenage girls at a British secondary school have apparently become entranced by their own heavily made up reflections.

In order to prevent female students from spending school hours primping in the bathroom, Shelley College, a co-ed public school in northern England, has barred students from wearing make-up and spending time in front of the mirror.

Though I am personally against the wearing of make-up and jewelry, I find this school's action rather outrageous. To me, all people are pretty fantastic just the way God made them, but to some people, wearing make-up is necessary for their own self-esteem. To ban the wearing of make-up for teenaged girls seems a bit over the top.

What are your thoughts?

Can't they do it at home before they get to school?

The school administrators and teaching staff are checking each of the girls for evidence of make-up. It is banned entirely from the school--and according to the article, some of the mirrors in the restrooms have been removed as well.

Ah- interesting! I'd like to see the results they get

Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Me too! Trends in education always fascinate me. My son's high school moved to wearing uniforms 5 years ago. Most people think it's a great success. I haven't seen much of an improvement--and I see a lot of lax enforcement of the requirements.

Now, they've moved to block scheduling (taking only 4 courses per semester). I'm not a fan of it so far--I imagine after a few years the administration will agree with me that it's a bad idea.

The article said the girls are using heavy make-up. That would require touching up throughout the day.
