Q.E.D. Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Just a simple question that would appear to be easily answered with one or two Bible verses. But apparently not so simple for some Christians. I haven't quite figured out why it merits so much consideration. Anyway I will ask "The Question" and see if I can figure out why some are so obsessed in trying to answer it. Believe it or not I think this "Why Did Christ Have To Die" movement is somewhat rooted in a "watered down" or "diluted" form of Gnosticism. I could be wrong since I am still analyzing this "Why Did Christ Have To Die" stuff. Peace be unto you! Why Did Christ Have To Die? Quote Satanic Verses-Salman Rushdie.

Romans 6:23 (23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Q.E.D. Posted September 24, 2011 Author Posted September 24, 2011 Yes, Romans 6:23 is good. I like these verses also. "21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name *JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins."(Matt 1:21) "8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."(Rom 5:8) "11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; 12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us."(Heb 9:11-12) Quote Satanic Verses-Salman Rushdie.

Robert Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 Why Did Christ Have To Die? Romans 3:10 As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one" Gal 3:10 For it is written, "Cursed is everyone who doesn't continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them." Ez 18:20 "The soul who sins shall die" Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever things the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world [the human race] may become guilty before God. Romans 7:6 But now we have been released from the law, for we died with Christ, and we are no longer captive to its power. Romans 6:6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with.... Romans 7:4 As far as the Law is concerned, you also have died because you are part of the body of Christ Quote
Windsor Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I'm a little confused by what exactly you're asking. Ultimately the answer is that we could not be saved any other way. If that's the type of answer you're looking for, then great. However, if you're asking why Christ had to die in order to save us, then that is a much tougher question. Yes, I am more interested in the "Why Christ had to die in order to save us?" tougher question. :) Quote Satanic Verses-Salman Rushdie.
Robert Posted September 24, 2011 Posted September 24, 2011 I am more interested in the "Why Christ had to die in order to save us?" tougher question. While I didn't answer this question directly, I did give Bible verses to back my answer. The reason Christ, as the Son of Man, took the 2nd death was because the law requires our life from Adam...our humanity from Adam...to die. Jesus, as the Son of God, assumed our fallen life from Adam at the incarnation. By assuming our corporate humanity and living a perfect life of agape in it, Christ answered the positive demands of the law, which is "obey and live". But because our humanity is indwelt with iniquity, Christ (as the Son of Man) tasted the 2nd death. In other words our corporate life from Adam came to and end in the humanity of Christ. Why? Because the law also demands justice, i.e., "disobey and die". Since "all have sinned and come short of the glory of God" our corporate life had to come to end. That's why Paul states that we "died to the law in body of Christ". The law has been legally satisfied in the doing and dying of Christ. This "justification of life" was accomplished for the whole human race, but not all will accept it. When the sinner does he stands justified by faith. This is the basis of our salvation. Now, as we remains in Christ by faith, we begin to reflect Christ's agape love more and more....This is sanctification by faith. At the 2nd coming we receive from Christ our immortal, sinless life. This is glorification. Quote
