Bogus Papi Scam

“The lawyer listened to my story and told me that he had these cases all the time. Here’s how the system works: a non-married mother applies for aid in one of Louisiana’s myriad wealth distribution offices, perhaps welfare. The State then asks the mother the name of the child’s (or children’s) father. This is a requirement for receiving aid in Louisiana. The State then seizes the money from the recalcitrant father.

So how did I get pulled into this? After assuring my attorney several times that there was no possible way in this or any other world that I was the father of these children he told me that either my name was pulled from the Internet or someone volunteered my name to the mother (perhaps one of my students). Once the D.A.’s office knew my name and city of residence, it would be fairly easy to pull my driver’s license information and learn everything about me including the aforementioned social security number.

My attorney called the D.A.’s office and told the representative the same thing I had, only with bigger words in order to justify a $175 per hour fee. He stated that I had been absent from Louisiana for almost ten years and couldn’t have been available to cause the pregnancy which resulted in the two youngest children. The D.A.’s office amended the complaint and now accused me of being the non-custodial parent of only the eldest child.” ………..

He should have turned around and sued that gal for false accusations.

How much would you collect from a single-parent mother, probably with limited income. In such cases a lawsuit is only harrassment.

And his harrassment was of no account?????

What is a person to do when goverement comes after a person falsely? Sue the Goverment??? To what avail?

Whatever would the lawsuit accomplish?

Could it reimburse his good name if it was won?

Would just the filing of a lawsuit get the gal in this case really intimidated enough to retract her claim?

The article had for me a spiritual lesson as I read it.

I asked myself what do I do when I get false-witnessed against?

What resources beyond praying to God can I draw on to put truth and justice up front?

Do I need to write or speak to others of my innocence?

When Sabbatarians become a thorn in the government eyes come some future date, there will be lots of false witnessing lies circulated about them. Should these believers write or speak out their innocence to others?

Yes, Turmeric, I think that's just about the only "lesson" we can learn from this scenario. We all might easily become victims of some lying testimony against us at some point in our lives.

Especially under the new Patriot Act.

But in the Louisiana child support case, the motivation is purely money. If the State is paying out Welfare benefits for this child, they will search diligently to find the father, in order to get reimbursement from him.

DNA testing is the proper defense.

This case bothers me...this man spends $1500 to re-establishes his good name because the state went after him. Even then, it doesn't really re-establishes his good name, only that it drugged it in the dirt. Doesn't the state bear some responsiblity for his needless expenses in pursuing these runaway fathers.... I mean, Bush is attempting to remove 'frivolus lawsuits' from the court system, but this is a case of slander and liebel. Surely, he has a case for sueing the state in this case for all time of frustatation, and court and lawyer expenses over a mistaken/wrongly accused man.

It's the birthmother who "slandered and libeled" him, not the State. She's the "bad guy." He'd have a good case against her, except for the fact that she has no money. So it would be an exercise in futility.

An artwork containing mock 37-cent stamps showing President Bush with a revolver pointed at his head is part of an exhibit at Columbia College's Glass Curtain Gallery titled 'Axis of Evil, the Secret History of Sin' Tuesday, April, 12, 2005 in Chicago. The exhibit captured the attention of the Secret Service who sent agents to inspect the works last week according to gallery officials.
