M. T. Cross Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 What if the Adventist church ran a safe injection site? What message would that send? I think you would have two responses from the community. 1. Negative feedback that always accompanies any program like this. Mix that with a religious group doing it and some folks would look upon SDA's as encouraging drug use. But the type of people that say that kind of thing will always find something wrong. Its the type of thing they live for. 2. Positive feedback. I know here in our community the SDA church is looked upon as those crazy fundies that think themselves better than all non Adventists. Other than a couple members of the local church - I could not agree more. The church here does nothing to involve itself in the community. The church itself is even on a hill just outside of town. The location yells out that it wants to be apart. Now we have a huge drug problem here in town - being right on the border we are one of the drug capitals of Canada (per capita). If the SDA church were to involve itself in someway in keeping the town cleaner, offering a visible support in helping the junkies rehab, give them food, etc. I think it would help the reputation of the membership in a large way. Now this could be a local problem where I live. I know if I were so inclined to go to a Christian church here in town - the SDA one is the least welcoming. So my view is anything they could do to be a part of the community - other than condemnation and ridicule - would go a long way. Quote
