ClubV12 Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 I used to be a race car driver, that was pretty intense. Everything else was secondary in my life. Now I'm a christian and I'm bringing the same intensity and passion to this race for the heavenly crown as I did before. How about those rugged fisherman Jesus called? Throwing those nets and hoisting them back into the boat loaded with fish. Pullling those oars, fighting that storm. You know they had rippling muscles, strength above average, practical, hard working, dedicated men. Men of action, not one to back down from a fight, ready to draw the sword and cut someones ear off if need be! Imagine being a carpenter in those days. No power tools, nothing but hard work. On occasion cutting down that tree with an ax, now thats brutal work! And then sawing it into useable lumber, whew. You know Jesus was rippling with muscles as well, a real mans man. And yet, a man of tears, strength of a lion, compassion like a lamb. It's impossible for me to imagine such men as "nerds". These are men I'd be proud to hang out with, whether I was a christian or not. Quote

Moderators John317 Posted October 7, 2011 Moderators Posted October 7, 2011 You've been repeating this foolishness for years now. All it does is show how little you understand of what happened and what the plan of salvation is all about. Amazing, considering how much you say you studied and thought about it. I think what happens is that when people reject Christ, they not only forget a lot but they twist & pervert everything that they do remember. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Moderators John317 Posted October 7, 2011 Moderators Posted October 7, 2011 Wikipedia's definition of "nerd" Quote: Nerd is a term that refers to an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit. Nerds are generally considered to be awkward, shy and/or unattractive by most. Thus, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by others, or will tend to associate with a small group of like-minded people. Does everyone agree with this definition? I think a lot of people simply understand "nerd" to refer to people who very often have their nose in a book. Until the last few years, I was very physically active and did not associate with like-minded people. I've actually always preferred being around people who thought differently than I do. Personally I am very shy, but not physically awkward. I've always loved playing all kinds of sports and probably would have played professional baseball if I hadn't been brought up as an SDA. (Yes, I'm glad I was born into an SDA family. I never regretted it.) Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

[19] For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart." [20] Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? [21] For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the foolishness of what we preach to save those who believe. 1 Cor. 1:25-29 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. [26] For consider your calling, brothers: not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. [27] But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; [28] God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, [29] so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. 1 Cor. 2:14 The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned. Moderators John317 Posted October 7, 2011 Moderators Posted October 7, 2011 LOL-- that's OK. I like being a "nerd." Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted October 7, 2011 Moderators Posted October 7, 2011 ... why don't you point out which part of my last post isn't true. God sacrificed himself to himself. This sacrifice allowed him to not kill us. This was based on god's rules. Have you ever heard the recording of Andy Griffith telling the story about foot-ball from the viewpoint of "country bumpkin"? I think it's called, "What It Was." Very funny. The story is told from the viewpoint of a "country bumpkin" who watches "a bunch of fellers running around in a cow-field trying to see who can carry the pumpkin from one end of the field to the other without stepping on something." That's what football might seem like to a farm boy who sees the game for the very first time. Your description of the life, death, and resurrection of Christ seems to me a bit like the feller's description of football in Griffith's story. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Neil D Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Christianity The belief that god sacrificed himself to himself to allow himself to not kill all of us because of rules he made up himself. Makes perfect sense. Let me ponder "the rules he made up himself" concept...... What I hear from this is that God made this universe to amuse Himself with a delema that only He could have solved in which to keep Himself busy...Since man has to live by the rules that God made, mankind is not a free agent...but rather a kind of robot... Is that more or less a correct statement? Quote Democracy is a device that ensures we shall be governed no better than we deserve. Â George Bernard Shaw Â

I think it's called, "What It Was." Very funny. Maybe it's funny because we take football so seriously when it's really a bunch of guys running up and down the field with a funny shaped ball. And when we look at some of the beliefs of Christianity we see the same thing. I look at Christianity more like the the story about the Emperor's new clothes. Now let's contrast that with the Atheist simplification. It states that it's ridiculous to believe that there are self replicating bits. Have you ever heard of DNA? And speaking of nothing coming from nothing... To claim that god did it is simply giving "nothing" a name. Quote Rich http://tiny.cc/CM2j8
doug yowell Posted October 7, 2011 Posted October 7, 2011 Wikipedia's definition of "nerd" Not if it excludes me from being a really cool nerd. Anyway, ever consider what the opposite would be? (Unintelligent, open minded person who cares nothing about anything other than their social pursuits, secure only in their group acceptance, and unable to function confidently without that broad base of peer support...)
